    Falketind Flex1 Softshell Pant

The Norrona Men's Falketind Flex 1 Softshell Pants are a burly pair that let you move on the mountain. The Flex 1 fabric stretches for your cross country skiing or ice climbing in the winter and your backpacking in the fall, and the fabric handles wear and tear. The pants are also very breathable so you don't feel like stripping down to your knickers halfway through a multipitch on big walls. Norrona added a DWR coating for water and wind resistance.

The Falketind has a tighter fit to reduce bulk for mountaineering excursions, but its fit doesn't restrict your mobility. Inner gaiters hook to your boot laces so they don't flap around while you ski or climb, and the Custom-fit waist system ensures an ideal fit regardless of how many layers you have on. Snaps at the ankles to seal out any cold elements you're facing on the mountain.

    • Flex 1 shell with DWR coating
    • Tighter fit
    • Inner gaiters with hooks
    • Custom-fit waist system

I’d read a lot about this brand... I wasn’t sure they hype was worth it. The price sure said it was. I bought these for Minnesota fall and they are the best pant I’ve owned. They are great for running around parks with the kids, a casual date night, and doing work in the yard. Just the right amount of warmth for 35 degree morning walks with dog and they don’t get too hot in 60 degree heat. Honestly, I wouldn’t buy another brand. I bought these and regret all my other hiking pant purchases. Comfort is superb, fit is excellent and the quality is out of this world. I liked them so much I bought another pair a week after getting them. Highly recommend and you won’t be disappointed.

I ordered these in at the recommendation of Alex G during my search for new softshell pants. Ultimately I went with the Arc'teryx Gamma AR, but these are a solid contender. The fabric for the Flex 1 is a stretchy medium weight stretch woven. No doubled seat or knees, which appears to be the modern style. The cut is slim but rather square, the taper is not so much that you don't have room to pull these down over boots. They close with two snaps and a zipper. No belt, but belt loops so you could add a nylon belt if you wanted. The waist also has velcro tabs on each side to adjust the overall waist size. For example, I ordered XL because for winter I wear my softshell pants over Powerstretch tights. With the velcro tabs I can accommodate the Powerstretch, or snug down for warmer conditions when lighter bottoms are all I need. Nice! The bottom hems include a snap adjustment to snug the pants over boot tops AND a lace hook for holding the bottom to the boot. Thoughtful, though I wonder about snaps freezing in the cold and snow. The other feature for the Flex 1 is pockets: two front pockets, one hip pocket, and a thigh pocket on each leg (one vertical, one horizontal), all zipper closed. That's a lot of storage space, more than any other softshell pant I tried. As I said, I went with the Gamma AR, mostly for a subtly better fit. The Norronas are really nice though, and were my second choice. I could have made them work.

I ordered these recently and absolutely love them! They are a little snug, but still comfortable. They are a slimmer fit, but stretchy and comfy. The button cuffs and lace hooks are great for hooking to your boots to keep the cold out. So far I've used them for a couple hikes in ~30F degree temps and a couple ~40F temp mountain bike rides and they've been great. They're more of a shell without insulation, so it helps to wear an under layer. I saw some other reviews about the pockets being small, and while they aren't as big as I'd like them to be, I have a pretty big phone (Google Pixel XL) with a case and it fit in there nt problem. This is the 3rd or 4th item I've gotten from Norrona and they've all been great!

I have about a true 33" waist and these pants are nice and snug. Unlike the mediums of other brands, I probably wont need a belt to hold these up during normal winter activities. And there is room to tighten them as I lose weight. If you have a true 34" waist go the next size up.

I bought these pants with the intent of wearing them on multiple treks/climbs in Peru and on ascents of Colorado peaks in a variety of conditions. I’ve had the chance to wear them on shorter hikes and I am pleased with their performance so far. They shed water and light snow well, while still remaining breathable and comfortable. The snaps around the ankles and boot clips are very useful in keeping mud and snow out of boots without brining along gaiters. The material seems durable and they are well made. The pockets are slightly small, but there is enough room for essential small items. I am 6’1, 175 lbs with a long inseam and size L fit well -plenty long and slightly loose around the thighs. The adjustable Velcro on the waist makes it easy to snug them up comfortably, without a belt.

Totally in love with these pants - having only worn them once on the slopes in March. Definitely slim fitting but tons of stretch when you require it. I purchased Norrona after extensive research on "tall" products. Extremely pleased with the purchase - highly recommend! Further to that, BACKCOUNTRY was amazing. Very impressed with their customer service. I'll be shopping here again :)

..but when I do, I choose the Norrona Falketind Softshell Pants. For me, these are the quintessential softshell pant for hiking year-round. They are super comfortable, have great stretch and excellent durability (I've had mine for 3 years now) - the fit is spot on, and the pockets are well-placed and useful. The adjustable cuff option is key when you need to lock them down around your boots to keep out dirt and snow out. I have a 34" waist and the large works well for me.

I love the lace hook garage. I can't stand those things when I'm not using them. The garage feature ends that issue. Kyle Brady 1-800-409-4502 ext 4420 kbrady@backcountry.com Instagram: @kb4420

I tried these pants for the first time while hiking in Lake Tahoe in early May. The temperature was above freezing and it was ranging from chilly in the morning to somewhat cool during the day. Being in the mountains there would often be cold wind and these pants were perfect for the task. They have a slim fit but they are stretchy as well. Every pocket has a zipper (there is one zippered back pocket too and a small, vertical zippered pocket on left leg, neither mentioned in the description, which adds up to 5 pockets). Love the design and contrasting colors on the zippers. The size is a bit odd. I have mine in medium, the only thing that'll fit my 33/34 waist and 30 inseam. However the waist adjustments have to pretty much extended all the way.
