short waisted and runs small

I had been looking for gortex shell pants. When I opened the package I was extremely excited. The weight and quality were perfect. I pulled them on and they fit perfectly over my largish thighs. They also fit reasonably well over my hips. I have a small stomach pouch but the XL was not even close to buttoning or zipping. I could lose 50 pounds and these would never fit. By that time the legs and buttocks would hang off. I may have gotten an off pair, but I don't know what body this would fit. I'm short and squat, but these would have too short waisted for someone taller and thinner. I ordered about 5 pairs of XL from different brands at the same time. All of the other XLs fit perfectly or were slightly large. I kept all of them. I think this is a major off sizing problem.

Sizing Off - Runs Full Size Too Small

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it
Size Bought:
M

5' 6"
Weight:
160

This pant runs a full size too small. I?m 5? 6?, 160 lbs, even proportions / hourglass shape, muscular thighs under a bit of fluff, long rise (that means JLo folks!). For comparison, my go-to ski pant is a Norrona Lofoten in size Medium that fits beautifully (other than being a teeny bit long in the inseam), and I?m a consistent size Medium in Arcteryx, Patagonia and Athleta. I couldn?t even zip up the Falketind pant in Medium - the waist was almost 2? too small, and the thighs would have been too snug for athletic activity. Had to size up to Large, which has plenty of room in waist / hips / thighs, but the inseam is several inches too long. Fortunately ski & hiking boots will keep the pant legs in place well enough. These Falketind pants and a matching jacket will be my new Spring and early Fall ski / hike / kayak outfit. More fit comments for those considering making this investment: The Falketind is also too low-rise for my tastes - it sits a over 3 inches below the smallest part of my waist. My merino base layer pants stick out of the Falketind waist band by 3+ inches... which is the only way I?ll have skin coverage in these Falketind pants. These pants in Medium would fit a 5? 10? 135lb long-waisted woman beautifully... which is far taller than the average woman found in nature. It would be nice if Norrona did a bit more research on the women who actually spend the most money on top-of-the-line outdoor gear (hint: it?s middle-aged active/outdoorsy women with enough disposable income; the semi-pro athletes and fit models are not a very big market, folks!). Despite the opportunities for improvement, Norrona makes the very best gear out there for ski and rain gear, period. The details blow away even Arcteryx and Patagonia: Norrona has the most and longest zippers and pockets, the best cuff details and closures. These little things really make a difference when you want to invest in a shell layer that gives you plenty of options in varying conditions and across seasons. I used to think pit zips were the best measure of an outer shell, but now I also look for full side zips, and only Norrona delivers here. My learning moment was last year when I tore an ACL in Whistler and would have lost any other brand of pant when they had to examine my leg before my sled ride down the mountain - they were going to cut my gorgeous Lofoten pant leg, but Norrona sides unzip all the way to the hip, so I?m wearing my Lofotens again this season (after a lot of laughing gas down the mountain, successful surgery and a few months of reconditioning!). I live in Seattle, ski and hike the Cascades and Whistler area, and I own other ski and rain options in Arcteryx and Patagonia, but nothing compares to my Norrona - it with a merino base layer consistently keeps me warm and dry in the wet snow / rain / wet winds of the Pacific Northwest.
