    Straight from the Arctic Circle.

Brave the harshest weather winter has to offer with Norrøna's warmest jacket, the Men's Lofoten Gore-Tex PrimaLoft Jacket. is the only place in the US where you can get this Norwegian masterpiece, and after you ski in it you'll understand why the Scandinavians wanted to keep it to themselves.

The Gore-Tex fabric is guaranteed waterproof and breathable to keep you dry from the outside as well as the inside, and it's tough to withstand abuse. Originally designed by the US Army to mimic goose down, Primaloft insulation is has a high warmth-to-weight ratio to keep you warm without adding a ton of bulk. In fact, it's so light and compressible that this jacket packs into its own pocket. And unlike down, Primaloft resists moisture and still insulates when wet. A removable powder skirt keeps snow out on deep days, and you can even snap it to your Norrøna pant for added protection

An articulated fit ensures the jacket moves with you whether you're hiking up or skiing down. The helmet-compatible hood easily fits over your brain bucket, and it has a one-hand adjustment cord so you can tighten it when the storm picks up. Stretch wrist gaiters keep snow from getting up your sleeves, and a goggle wipe lets you clear your lens when it gets dirty. Multiple zippered pockets keep your essentials close at hand, and an internal pocket keeps your phone shielded from the elements.

    Warm and dry

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large

With a lot of insulation and goretex topped off with a loose "freeride" fit, this was the jacket I'd been looking for. Cold days riding lifts are no problem.

Nice features that Norrona is known for, wrist gaiters, powder skirt that snaps to the Lofoten pants, goggle wipe in the chest pocket and ski helmet compatible hood.

The fit is nice and long without being very bulky in the body.

I'm a taller athletic build and the Large fit me perfectly.

The jacket is warmer than I thought and hiking in is sweaty.

I'd like to have some ventilation either in the arm pit or via a mesh backed pocket. That would make the piece perfect!

    Warm and dry

    Substantial decline in quality

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs large

This is my 3rd Lofoten Insulated jacket in the past 10 seasons. The first one held up for 4 years, 2nd for 5 years and this most current model lasted less than 10 days. Although the face fabric is softer and more comfortable on this new model, the durability is highly questionable. If you ski glades, chutes and technical terrain, this is not the jacket for you. They also did away with the nice large interior mesh pocket and pit zips on this model which is a head scratcher as well. The cuffs also showed significant signs of fabric chipping after less than 10 days. Pretty disappointing response from Norrona warranty, stating to send it to Rainy Pass for repair and wanted nothing to do a with a warranty claim.

Great jacket but be careful with size

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Large

I haven't had a chance to use this jacket yet as will need to return to get the XL so my comment is about sizing. Based on others comments, i went for the large. It's quite tight in the chest and shoulders but arm and overall lengths ate fine. I'm about 40 inch waist, 48 inch chest and 23inch shoulder width for comparison.
I'm hopefull the XL will give me a little more room.

    Not durable

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

Good jacket in terms of style, fit (although sleeves run long) and warmth. However, the material isn't durable. My first one ripped. Backcountry replaced it. Second one ripped after roughly 10 ski days. Backcountry was great and offered to replace with something else. BTW, only used the frontside so no trees, etc. Now, my problem is what to get for me t year. I prefer something insulated but I'm just not sure.

    Good Jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

I bought this jacket in green on sale ($300 USD), and for the price I payed I think is a very good jacket, very warm since I used it on temperatures below 17 fahrenheit with only 2 layers beneath and worked fine. The only problem I found is that it leaked a little in big storms. The fit is fine, but it is a little too loose on the chest.

    Good Jacket

Super Warm and Light Ski Jacket

If you're looking for a lightweight, waterproof and warm ski jacket, the Norrona Lofoten Gore-Tex Primaloft Jacket should be right up at the top of your list. This is Norrona's warmest freeride jacket, combining both Gore-Tex and Primaloft Silver Insulation - and it's so flexible that it packs into its own pocket. Whether you're skiing ice-cold blower pow or heavy, wet snow, the insulated Lofoten jacket is up to the task.

    Awesome coat

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: medium

I have used this coat for last month (avg 3 times a week) in a variety of conditions (-3 to 40 degrees) and variety of areas (resort and back country skiing) and it has been great. Fits me great, I am 5-10 @ 165 lbs have a size medium. I have room for beacon underneath and two layers when I needed it. I like it so much I am thinking of getting one for my adult kid

    Great jacket, poor quality

    • Size Bought: Medium

Great jacket, fits perfect, good hood, perfect pockets, nice and warm due to the primaloft.

I have this jacket for about 3 years and used it 3 or 4 weeks a year for skiing.

The outer layer, Gore Tex XCR, is not durable.

Due to friction when carrying my skis, there are a few holes and wear an tear, so soon the jacket has to be replaced, a pitty.

I hope the non- primaloft version is stronger.

    Great jacket

    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: Med

I wouldn't normally write a review but the others for this jacket seemed a bit harsh. Mine is in to its 4th season in the Alps so has probably done nearly 200 days on the mountain and is still water tight and has only 2 little nicks in the fabric, although its starting to look a little shabby now. I searched everywhere for something else to match it as I thought a change would be nice but nothing else compared for fit , warmth and function so I bought another one. It is only 2 layer Gore tex so you can't batter it like a 3 layer shell but that's what makes it so light and easy to wear. Best hood out there too. Guaranteed for 5 yrs in Europe but I've never tested that.

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Nice looking coat and warm which is what I wanted. The outer membrane seems fragile and the inner more so. After less than 5 ski days, all mellow with no traumatic events, noticed small tear in the inside hood area. Not what I expected in terms of durability from what is spoked to be a premium technical ski brand. Have not been able to get anybody from Backcountry to talk to me about, so disappointing on that level as well.
