    Affordable functional analog watch

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I bought this watch from Backcountry about a year ago, and for a mere $60, it's held up pretty well. I began my search when I accidentally destroyed my Fossil watch I had since middle school in an unfortunate encounter with a washing machine. Little did I know how hard the search would end up being! I wanted a women's analog watch that I could wear fishing, so, naturally, I wanted one that was fairly water resistant. But I also wanted one that was cute--not painfully big (literally, if you have smaller wrists like me) and clunky and look like men's watches. I mean, if I'm going to wear it, I might as well get some enjoyment out of it, right? Took me a good long while (several months, in fact, and I work with watches at a major department store), but I finally found this Nixon!

The Small Time Keeper P is water resistant to 100m, so for fishing and swimming (or even surfing and scuba diving) it's perfect. It doesn't have any fancy features-- it just tells the time, like the name says. The 26mm face is VERY comfortable to wear (doesn't hurt my hand if I bend it back). For size comparison, the crystal is roughly the size of a quarter. The watch itself is lightweight, due largely to the fact the case is basically a very tough plastic, not metal.

If you are a clean freak and don't want any dirt to show on the band of your watch, get the black or don't get this watch at all. I got this as an outdoors watch, so I don't mind it being a bit grubby, but poly bands are absolute magnets for dirt. This watch is no exception. You can try it all-- toothpaste, Softscrub, baking soda-- there will come a point where it won't come clean anymore. I suppose if you religiously clean it every week or so you can keep it pretty clean.. I... can't be bothered. Sorry. You can try the slightly more expensive other derivations of this watch, such as the stainless steel case and bracelet band, if this will bother you.

The second thing to consider is that the crystal is slightly raised above the bezel and has a beveled edge. This makes the crystal more vulnerable. At the year mark, I've just started noticing scratches and tiny chips on the edges. I haven't exactly been gentle with it, so I'm not surprised, and the damage so far is purely cosmetic (heck, considering how this happens all the time on those $1300 Movados, I'm even more okay with it!).

TL,DR: If you are looking for a no-frills casual analog watch you can get wet and don't want to spend upwards of $300, this watch is for you. Plus, it comes in all those fun colors! And it's CUTE! If you don't care about the band getting a bit dirty or the face getting a little scratched up over time, then this watch is for you.

    basic but functional

I have this watch in black and it is very basic but that's what I was looking for. Nothing to flashy about his watch but I have had it for awhile and its still working perfect. Its not to big on my wrist but its not so small I can't see the hands either. I think this is the perfect size. Great watch for this price point.

Is this watch water resistant or water proof??

According to Nixon's website (assuming this is the same model year), it's waterproof to 100m/50atm. Which is plenty for any kind of diving, swimming, surfing, rain, etc.
