Niner's RLT lineup of bikes have quite the reputation as the perfect all-terrain bike. For 2018, the RLT 9 4-Star Ultegra Complete Bike keeps this prestige alive while still representing an excellent value with its alloy frame and carbon fork paired with Shimano's new excellent R8000 drivetrain. This bike is eager to join you while exploring new routes and get you off the blacktop and on the backroads. RLT stands for Roads Less Traveled and this bike comes complete with components and frame features that might just have you camping roadside on a multi-day excursion. Shimano's latest Ultegra drivetrain continues to amaze and offers pin-point shifting accuracy every time its called upon to execute a shift. It's super durable to boot which is great to know when you're miles from civilization. The 50 / 34 tooth crank paired with an 11 - 34 tooth cassette provide plenty of range for hauling body and gear over mountain passes while still having enough gearing to go fast on that gravel epic you've signed up for. The 38mm Schwalbe G-One tires and Stans Grail wheelset suit the personality of this bike perfectly and are ideal for rolling quickly on the pavement while providing enough tread for confident performance off-road. Niner claims the frame has enough clearance to handle up to 44mm wide tires if you're more likely to roll trails and loose surfaces than blacktop.
The frame's geometry allows this bike to excel where other drop bar bikes cannot. The RLT 9 gets slightly longer chainstays, a lower bottom bracket height, and a slacker head tube angle. This translates to a lower center of gravity providing more stability at speed over rough surfaces, more confidence while cornering, and a longer wheelbase that is more comfortable over the long haul. Washboard descents are a little less dicey, the bike seems to always find the right line, and it's even nimble enough for some mellow singletrack. This bike's versatility is begging to see what you can do with it and the only limitation is you.
The RLT 9 aluminum frame pairs up with the Carbon RDO fork and it helps lighten the load and does an excellent job at quelling road vibrations. The fork isn't your typical carbon road fork mind you, its massive 15mm thru-axle anchors the hub on the roughest roads and the rack mounts allow it to carry up to 45 pounds. Pair that with the 55-pound weight limit on the rear rack and you've got a bike that is more than capable for a week of touring deserted roads and exploring nature.
