Top level.

Since it's built with the same technology found throughout Niner's top-level carbon frames, you won't be surprised to learn that the Flat Top RDO Carbon Handlebar loses a cool 20g of claimed weight compared to the non-RDO carbon model. Those lost grams litter the RDO bar's trail of production, which starts in the virtual world of computer modelling software and ends with a lay-up process that, following a map of stress points, strategically eliminates non-load bearing material.

  • RDO carbon fiber design eliminates unnecessary material for weight savings
  • Markings in 20mm increments provide cutting guide

A nice upgrade from Alloy

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I got this bar to replace my aluminum Flat Top handlebar that came on my Niner RKT 9. It's a little less weight and takes some of the vibration out of the bars. So far I am happy with this carbon upgrade.

Bar Hopping

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I got this to make a 130mm hardtail corner better. It replaces a 730mm Thomson XC carbon bar. At 188g, the RDO is a half ounce lighter than the Thomson despite the additional 5cm of length and degree of backsweep. With same stem (see photo) the RDO is plusher than the Thomson, with better high speed compression damping. The extra width allows for more steering input, and the degree of extra backsweep compensates for the wider stance. Based on an even more positive experience with a Next R 35 on another bike, I considered a Whisky 35, but didn't want to buy another stem or cut from 840mm. Acknowledging the privilege of these choices, I confirm that incremental improvements in handlebar design/construction are real.
