Gonna put em through a test!
Will update this review after my trip. I just sprayed this on my boots and gloves. Super easy to apply. Gonna put it through hiking in potential wet snow in Norway.

Take my Money!
I've been using nikwax for years now on all my gear. After a year of tough weather I started to notice my tents and shells where not reflecting as much moisture as before. After a coat of this stuff I have seen a great improvement

You owe your gear the best
This is an essential for making sure your shells and down jackets stay water repellent. Super easy to use, just make sure to follow your manufacturer's wash instructions. Personally I opt for the spray on DWR treatment rather than wash-in, as coating the inside of your water-permeable hardshells, softshells, and down jackets stifles their breathability. Definitely choose spray on over wash in

Back for more...
Nikwax honestly makes a great product. I have used their washes as well as the waterproofing sprays for years and so far I have yet to have a complain. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a simple waterproofing solution.

Saved my mitts and hands
Had a pair of old mitts that used to get soaked on any wet days but after a full round of treatment with this they as good as new. Make sure to follow the instructions and clean your gear before applying though. Found that if you do not do that it will not last as long.

At least every year I use TX Direct to revive my the water repellence on my outerwear. I'll spray allover and then turn the item insidious and throw in the dryer on low for a few min and then hang dry. This way it disperses evenly and doesn't drip everywhere.

This spray is rock solid and renewed my fans gear. You could definitely see the spots I missed when it rained as the water absorbed instead of beading and running off!

Brett- I'm glad you love it! Staying dry is primo! :)

Get some new DWR on your stuff!
Nikwax strikes again! This stuff is great. I love using this spray after a good washing on my goretex jackets and pants. It revitalizes the garments and makes them bead off water again. Anytime you are soaking in some rain or snow, it is time to revitalize your garments. Wash, spray, and dry- as easy as pie! (literally, just a step by step processes not pi itself).

No more wetting out.
This DWR spray will keep your jacket and pant's face fabric from wetting out, which sucks when it's raining non-stop or snowing like crazy on a powder day. Wetting out doesn't actually get you wet if you're wearing a waterproof jacket, but it will cause the cold and clammy feel, as you're holding onto all that residual moisture. This treatment will bead off moisture brilliantly, thus keeping your gear from soaking up all that water!

Nikwax tx spry
This works great at reviving my patagonia fishing waders. Recently my waders have been soaked on the outside and didn't bead water off like it used to. I sprayed it with this nikwax and it beads right off again!

Great for repellent and like philosophy
Worked great on an older softshell, did have to rub it in a bit to enhance adherence. Really like the company philosophy of environmentally friendly processing and non-toxic chemicals used.

NikWax to the Max!
Seriously, such a life save when your favorite ski jacket now collects more water than your bathroom towel. The instructions are incredibly easy to follow, and it makes the waterproofing on it just like new. I used them a pair of bibs that began soaking through. Afterward, they were solid and dependable. If your jacket had DWR or a PU coating, and its failing now, use this. You'll thank me later.
March 26, 2017
Your jacket isn't "worn out" it's just worn through the DWR coating. TX Direct is how you keep a rain shell repelling rain. Make sure you use a residue-free detergent like Tech Wash beforehand, and you'll be good to go.

THE Best DWR replenishment/waterproofing
This is the ONLY DWR replenishment & waterproofing I use. Have tried other approaches in the past for my 3 layer GoreTex garments (TNF, Arc Teryx, Monstone) and ToddTex tents & bivy bags (Black Diamond PTFE laminate fabrics), but TX Direct Spray on is the best! Easy to use: follow the Nikwax instructions. I've used this product for over 10 years. TX Direct allows me to get the best performance and protection out of expensive PTFE fabrics!

Work like a charm!
Applied a layer to my snowboard jacket and snowboard pants after washing them in tech wash and product worked like a charm. To test it out, I poured water on my jacket after a day of drying and it just sat there like a puddle. Spent 4 days in Jackson and 3 in Beaver Creek and never had an issue with being wet. That means a lot considering I feel quite bit.

Keeps my DWR coatings on all my gear up to par.

Has anyone used this on an Arc'teryx Atom LT jacket? I have one that is a couple years old and is losing its water resistance.

Can the spray on be used after the jacket has been washed and dried? Or is it better to apply the spray when the jacket is wet/damp?
January 8, 2015
It's best to wash the article(s) whose water repellency you want to renew with, Nikwax says, their Tech Wash - perhaps that's a good idea, since other detergents can potentially clog the pores between fibers that you're looking to waterproof. Then, their instructions are as follows: "For best results remove all non-washable parts and always clean item(s) first with Nikwax Tech Wash®. No need to dry item(s) before waterproofing. Protect working surface and lay clean garment flat and zip up all zippers. Hold bottle 15 cm/6 inches away from garment. Apply evenly to outside of fabric. Wait for 2 minutes. Remove any surplus product with a damp cloth. Check carefully to ensure no areas have been missed. After several minutes check for and remove any surplus product with a damp cloth." Therefore, you should wash your article(s), then while it's damp, just take it outside and hang it on something, spray it down, make sure to gently remove any surplus, and then let it air dry the rest of the way, and you should be good to go. Hope this helped.

I followed the instructions, then tossed into the dryer on low for about 15 minutes. The results were extremely satisfying.

I bought this product for my new backcountry.com cottonwood gloves. Will it work for the leather or should I return it and get the Creme (link)? - http://www.backcountry.com/nikwax-creme-waterproofing-wax-for-leather

Personally, I would would hold on to this for your softshells and use the cream to treat leather.

Can you use this on gloves too? (ex. Kinco)
December 16, 2013
Yes, you can--although it will not make a product water resistant that was not previously treated with a DWR coating. So, as long as the gloves were previously DWR, they should be good to go with the NikWax spray.

Can I use this on a soft shell? I have gotten conflicting answers from people I don't really trust. So I'll ask strangers. I'd rather get one product that I can use on everything?

December 6, 2013
This obviously won't add waterproofness to a jacket that never had it, but it can increase water resistance in a softshell. I would feel safe spraying this product on any garment that came with a DWR coating when you bought it.

You will need quite a few bottles. This will cover one, maybe two jackets. For such a large piece of material, you may want to look at an alternative product designed for larger items. Otherwise it will be incredibly expensive.
April 19, 2015
I think that since canvas has much more texture than the nylon/polyester fabric used on jackets/pants, this spray would not be ideal to cover such a large area. I would suggest looking at wax to waterproof your canvas. The wax gets laid down much more thickly than this spray, and offer a bit more protection.
