Air Zoom Terra Kiger 5 Trail Running Shoe

When you're looking to go fast on the trail, look no further than the Nike Air Zoom Terra Kiger 5 Trail Running Shoe. It's built for speed with a comfortable and lightweight design, and now features an updated outsole for improved performance on wet and variable trail conditions. Previously known as a shoe that stuck to mostly dry trail surfaces, the Kiger 5 now features a sticky midfoot rubber compound for improved traction on slick roots and rocks. The front and rear of the outsole still feature high-abrasion rubber and a lugged design to dig into the trail, but you'll now have a more reliable center grip when dealing with slippery conditions.

The shoe has also been updated with a full React foam midsole, which delivers a smooth and responsive ride on hard trail surfaces, as well as forefoot rock plate that offers protection from sharp rocks and other trail hazards. A snug lacing system gives you a comfortable and supportive fit for rocky and technical trail sections, while a special Zoom Air unit in the heel provides added cushioning to accommodate the heel strikes that you often see on long runs and variable terrain.

    • Lightweight trail running shoe with a smooth and responsive ride
    • React cushioning returns energy for a springy stride on the trail
    • Updated outsole features a sticky center for wet-trail traction
    • Multi-directional lugs offer grip on both hard and soft trails
    • Forefoot rock plate keeps your foot guarded from underfoot hazards
    • Snug lacing system keeps your foot supported for rough terrain
    • Engineered mesh upper is flexible, breathable, and supportive

    Pleasantly Surprised

While I was skeptical of Nike in the trail scene, the shape and look of the Kiger 5 got me interested as to try it. I am pleasantly surprised by the fit, look, responsiveness, comfort, and overall feel of the kiger 5. So surprised that I ordered the wildhorse 5 to try them out as well!

    Wow ... Nike did it

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 11

    • Weight: 185lbs

Ive been running trail mostly with solomon and merrel, but when i tried the past terra kiger version 4 i did liked them but they were missing in some areas, still was a promising shoe, when i saw that the Terra Kiger 5 was released i had to try them, and oh man ... this is such a different shoe!
For me the key is how to make a shoe that is soft enough but at the same time responsive and also gives you a great ground feeling which i think is key in trail running, shoes like hoka are great at cushioning but you lose ground feeling which end up on certain stability issues on your feet.
Im glad to say that this Nike is the best of both worlds, soft shoes, responsive and they provide great ground feedback, im really glad Nike really did the proper R&D on these shoes, and it shows.
The salomon sense trail 2 for example provide great ground feeling but they get super rough after 20km, still a great shoe, but these Terra Kigers are soft and forviging even after 30km or more. Longest run on them so far is 45KM.
All in all .. i had to write a review, i dont usually write them, but i felt compelled to give Nike some kudos on the R&D behind the Terra Kiger 5.
Oh ... and they have great traction!

    Color wins

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

Color wins, but have to admit the fit is still Nike.
If Nike works for you, these are awesome! If NIke doesn't, well, then don't expect any changes. The toe cap is "short" vertically, so my toe nails rub, and the pre-curvature is nice to run in, but can add some strain to my foot as I am usually in Salomon shoes. So these are sick for NIke lovers, and those whose feet fit NIke well, I wish my feet fit these better, as I love how they look. I wear 9.5 dress shoes and Vans, 10 for trail and road shoes, and these fit as expected in length for a 10.
