Fuel Your Fire.
If fast, durable, and responsive are three things you seek in a running shoe, look no further than the New Balance Men's Fuel Cell v1 Running Shoe. The shoe's sleek design lends a fast feel, while the 6mm drop and neutral support maintain adaptive versatility. Now, it's important to note that the Fuel Cell is a relatively stiff shoe, thanks in part to its unique midsole.
New Balance has dubbed this material "FuelCell." FuelCell consists of a hardy, nitrogen-infused TPU foam material which, while it might sound kind of gimmicky, actually has a hint of science: TPU foam is designed to last longer and provide more dependable energy return than conventional EVA foam. So, when you pair the nitrogen component with TPU foam, this directly translates into a more springy feel underfoot as you uptick the miles. That being said, the FuelCell midsole is relatively firm, yet it still maintains the flexibility you need—though, heavy foot strikers beware, this might not be the ideal shoe for you.
Additionally, the Fuel Cell features an upper material that's equally as unique as its midsole construction. To start, the Fuel Cell is endowed with structurally-supportive synthetic panels that offer a personalized, snug fit, but without constricting your foot as you increase your mileage. Meanwhile, the mesh inserts provide breathability and ventilation, and the plastic heel counter provides a hint of support to prevent your stride from deteriorating mid foot strike.
