Hornet 1P Tent

If the Hornet Elite is Nemo's ultralight shelter, then the Hornet 1P Tent is Nemo's ultra-livable tent for backpacking. It boasts 10% more internal space than the Hornet 1P Elite Tent, and although it's a little heavier, this Hornet still only weighs two pounds or less. Keeping time on your side, the DAC Featherlite NFL pole attaches in a hubbed intersection for a quick set-up and easy freestanding pitching. Nylon fabric along the tent floor and vestibule cut down on weight, but not protection or durability, while PU and silicone coatings provide waterproof protection when you encounter unexpected afternoon downpours. With rain fly attached, the Hornet has a vestibule over the zippered door to protect your valuables while you wait out the storm in search of sunnier, warmer skies, in which case the mesh canopy can provide sufficient ventilation, without the rain fly.

  • Light backpacking tent with more space than most 1-person tents
  • 3-season versatility pairs a mesh canopy with a rain fly
  • Zippered door with vestibule for dry storage
  • DAC Featherlite poles with FlyBar clip for fast and easy setup
  • Includes light pockets and compression sack
  • Item #NEM0087

My First Nemo Tent

This tent has become one of my new favorites. It is easy to setup and makes a great foundation for the big three in my backpacking kit. I have enjoying this so much that I use my Hornet 2P when I go car camping as well.

Really wanted to love it

i've used the 2p Nemo Hornet for a full season now (around 25 nights), mostly bikepacking but also 2 hiking weekends. I really wanted to love it because it's small, compact, easily set up and really stands out at a campground. However, I found that condensation, and mostly the way the rainfly starts sagging when hit with condensation, was a real problem. When leaving the tent for a midnight bathroom break the rainfly hits the inner mesh causing drops to fall into the inner tent which is really annoying. Also, with two people it's just not comfortable, there's not enough room for 2 packs so I would call it a roomy 1p but not a 2p. I will be looking into a different tent, might hold on to this one for really sunny trips but after spending 2 days in rain it really isn't the tent for me unfortunately :( For someone who literally packs up before the crack of dawn and is moving around until dusk this might be a great tent...

Just finished PCT using Nemo hornet 1&2

My PCT journey took me through the hottest deserts of all time fires, smoke reroutes 30 degrees weather in Cascades pouring rain lightning and wind that made most tents beg for mercy. I might add I’m 60 and disabled yet both tents accommodated me well why two tents N Washington tent sights just won’t accommodate people rockin duplexes so I switched out to my one for north Washington and back two the two after.

Great tent, light, comfortable

This is a well thought out tent that holds up in severe weather and does not burden your backpack. My only complaint is that it's a little tight on the bottom of the tent and two people are a tight fit. More of a 1.5 person tent. Because I use it alone most times, not a huge issue for me. Thoughtful features like the overhead light diffuser for your headlamp are a bonus. I have camped in this tent for three years now and it has seen a good deal of rain with no leakage. It also survived a serious wind event (guide out) with no issues. For the weight, you can't beat the sturdiness.

Cons outweigh pros

Took this to Olema campground, CA which is kinda close but not that close to Point Reyes. It was misty overnight and woke up finding the moisture seeping through the head area where it isn't covered by the fly. Also found lots of condensation inside the tent as well as on the inside of the tent. I highly doubt that will keep any amount of steady rain out.

3rd season

Have no complaints you you still use the OR bivi because of weight and and setting up.. But now with the hornet I don't have to sacrifice room and comfortbeing that it's only 2 pounds. Combined it with a disco 15 Degree sleeping bag and I'll never purchase another brand.. I recommend it to all my clients clients and friends next purchase will be a 2 p Kodiak or chogori. I like the idea of not needing a rain fly. Depending on the 2lb sacrifice but would eliminate and water getting in well setting up in a storm. Can't wait to make the everyone knows how fun it is opening up knew camping gear. You feel like a kid on Christmas.

Love this tent so much.

Everything just makes sense. From set up to how convenient everything is. Light diffusing pocket was amazing. Got it a few years ago finally got to use the tent and it did not disappoint. Took it to the high Desert. I haven’t hit any real rain with it but I have a good feeling. I’ve had many tents and this is just beyond my favorite. Mine weighed in just a little over 29 ounces With the stuff sacks and everything but the stakes. Out of the bag though it did have a defect in the mesh that I’m a little worried about especially because it’s by the door. I wanted to tear up when I saw it. Noticed a little bunching in the mesh in another area. Other than that the High Quality of the tent is noticeable. Would honestly recommend Nemo over Big Agnes or MSR any day. :-)

I bought this tent 6 years and many hundred days in the field ago... and it is still my go to tent. The elastic in the poles had to get replaced this year and I have had to "patch" one small pinhole in the side wall (looks like it was caused by an errant campfire ember). I say "patch" because it was so small i just used seam seal. I am 6' and 165lbs and I primarily use it with my wife (5'6" 120lbs) and it provides the perfect amount of space. We can fit boots/packs under the vestibules with enough space at the foot of the tent for some clothes storage without the tent getting crowded or messy. We run the tango duo slim bag with the exped synmat duo hl, which fits perfectly in the hornet. Its just like a big weatherproof bed in the backcountry. Also, with the tent and sleep system weighing in around 6lbs it is more than light enough to take in solo, which makes it ultra lush and palatial. This tent is phenomenal. Go buy one.

Weather proof!

I have used this tent with my husband on several backpacking trips but recently took it on a very stormy trip where it rained everyday. Our nemo kept us and all our gear dry even when water started pooling beneath us! It is a bit small for 2 adults but we sacrifice a little bit of space to keep the pack weight down. All in all, I'm very satisfied with my tent and plan to use it for years to come.

Not durable

I really wanted to love this tent. But on night one there were multiple tears in the noseum mesh (which was under the fly not even left out without a fly over it). One of the holes is by the pole attachment for front of tent and came in it, didn't notice until I was on the trail of course. The tent caves in and the fly with guyouts still drips into the tent with condensation since it won't stay away from the tent and I'm too afraid to put anymore tension on it since it rips with no tension. The tent itself does not come with enough stakes if you want to put the fly on it. Comes with 4 stakes total. I'm not sure if that was a design flaw or if I was just sent wrong number of stakes. Over all I like the size and weight. But I wouldn't reccomend it due to the durability of this tent. It rips with no wind and nothing near it, so wouldn't trust it in any sort of wind or storm.
