Functional True 2 person tent
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
I was provided the Nemo Dragonfly 2p tent to review and the opinions to follow are solely my own based upon my experience. Upon receiving the tent, I did an initial in house setup and found the tent to be quite spacious for the weight of 50 ounces, or 3 lbs 2 oz and easy to set up with color coded poles. Two standard size width and length sleep pads (the Nemo Tensor Regular ) fit comfortably with room to store gear at the feet. The head room was sufficient enough to sit up comfortably without banging my head against the top of the tent. The tent zippers were smooth both on the vestibule doors and the fly. The doors open wide and are easy to get you and your gear in and out do. I love the white privacy mesh that the newer model Nemo tents offer as opposed to the black mesh on the older model tents. Walk about 5â away and itâs difficult to see the interior of the tent. The denier of the floor fabric and fly is more durable than the Nemo Hornet. That extra durability combined with the fact this is a freestanding tent would have me lean towards bringing the Dragonfly over the Hornet into environments I knew to be more rocky, such as the White Mountains of New Hampshire and Pennsylvania on the Appalachian Trail.
I took it out for a quick overnight with my hiking partner and we shared the weight. Setup in the field was easy and took just a few minutes. The ability to roll back both the vestibule door and the tent body door worked well for getting gear in and out during set up. Once inside, the addition of the crossbar at the peak created a noticeable difference in the livability for 2 people in a 2p tent. We experienced an unexpected downpour and even sat up and played cards. The tent performed exceptionally well in the rain, keeping the gear stashed in the vestibule dry and the interior of the tent dry. The two corner gear pockets at the head of the tent served well to stash our phones and battery chargers, along with a few extra small items. Having two overhead light pockets worked out well so that each of us could stash our headlamp and use the diffusing fabric for light as need be. Of course, you are in a small space so the light will still affect your partner but not as much as if it were directly overhead and the location makes finding things on your side of the tent much easier.
My only complaints are really personal preference things. I didnât like the stakes. A bit too wide to get into rockier ground. Also, I wasn’t crazy about the extra stake on each side of the fly but understand why Nemo did it, for extra space in the vestibule and it works.
Overall though, I would highly recommend this tent if youâre planning on backpacking with a partner and sharing tent space. Itâs features, vestibule size and interior space make it a perfect 2p tent.
Great Size and Weight, Very Functional!
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I was provided this product from Backcountry, but this review is my personal opinion.
What I love most about this product is in the title. It is a spacious 2 person tent but is extremely light. It's packaged weight is 3 pounds 2 ounces and is easily stored inside the compression sack. You can compress this thing down to a very manageable size (without poles inside, of course).
It does have 2 doors, one on each side. This tent also only has 2 poles. There is a hubbed, pre-bent DAC 8.7mm pole and 1 DAC Featherlite pole. The canopy floor is made of 10D Ripstop and the rest is the No-See-Um Mesh. It includes 8 aluminum stakes. The fly is made of 15D Ripstop and I love the snap on clips, it just makes it so quick and easy!
The interior is very roomy. There are two light pockets above and a few interior pockets on the sides. The material is extremely tough and durable. I am excited to try this out in the rain, I think it is going to manage just fine.
I think NEMO made an incredibly functional tent and I can't wait to use this on my future backcountry adventures.
