    Tiny, light, and incredibly comfortable.

After miles of rigorous hiking, you need a restful recovery, and the Nemo Equipment Inc. Astro Air Sleeping Pad gives you just that. The durable-yet-plush polyester shell is tear-resistant, quiet, and very comfortable. The lateral baffles inflate up to 2.5 inches above the bumpy ground so you can sleep without a stone pressing up against your back. This pad compresses down smaller than a coconut, and its stuff sack makes sure the pad doesn't bulk up your pack when space is something to worry about, which it basically is on every backpacking trip. Inflate this pad yourself, or get the Disco Pad Pump (sold separately).

Very compact yet comfy sleeping pad

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

The Astro Air is very compact so it is nice for backpacking trips. Sleeping on it is very comfortable and spacious. However, the inflation process is a bit cumbersome and annoying.

    Nemo Sleeping pad

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

this is very comfortable as far as sleeping pads go. It takes a little while to inflate manually but is very doable, and deflates very easily with the extra valve.

    Decent pad

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've used this in hammocks, and my tent. Very comfy, and doesn't make to much noise when rolling around. It's a little heavy, but hey not bad for 60$. If your a side sleeper this a good pad for that. Keeps pretty warm as well!! Packs down to a decent size. Like I said my only bugaboo is the weight.

    Durable, fast deflate, and comfortable

The best thing I love about this pad is the large dump valve. You can deflate this pad in like 1 second. The horizontal baffles are comfortable and the larger baffle at the top keeps you from losing your pillow or for some extra head support. Love it!

      Nice, But A Bit Heavy

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I bought this to add to my arsenal of products for a 3 night backpacking hunting trip, and it fit the bill for thickness, comfort and packable size. But...it is pretty heavy. My pack totaled 70 pounds, and I tell you what, every ounce counts! I'm not sure how this stacks up in terms of weight compared to other inflatables, but it is heavier than the thin cheap pads. If weight is not a concern, then this is great for you.

      So far so good....

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I purchased this to replace a competitors air mattress that I gave to another family member. Here are my observations thus far after 4 nights of outdoor usage in the backcountry:
      Things I like:
-slightly smaller and more compact when rolled than a thermarest equivalent
-meaningfully thicker when inflated than the thermarest equivalent / better support for a heavyset side sleeper.
      -more comfortable than my thermarest
      -small built-in pillow
-quick deflation plug (really speeds up deflation and rolling)
      Things only time will tell:
-it doesn't seem to be quite as stoutly built as the thermarest equivalent, but if it holds up - it holds up....it will take time to see if it's as long lasting as my thermarests.
-the quick deflation plug is very cool and makes deflation and rolling MUCH easier than the thermarest, however, if it ever were to come out or - over time wears such that it doesn't stay in, that would be disastrous....at this juncture I really like the feature, assuming it holds up over time, it's a brilliant idea.

-This is getting really picky but is important - both my thermarest valves and its predecessor Big Agness air mattresses fit both my K-pump, and my Carlson barrel pump. The nemo fits neither so pumping it up was much more of a chore than my thermarest. It would be nice if the valve fit pump fittings used for whitewater pumps, such as K-pump and Carlson.

Overall I'm favorably impressed initially. It has some cool and inventive features. I've had a nemo pillow for years and have really been happy with it, so I am optimistic. If the valve fit my existing air pumps it would get 5 stars.
