Scepter 35L Backpack

The Mystery Ranch Scepter 35L Backpack has just about every feature you could need on a shorter mountaineering or ice-climbing expedition. It's got an ultra-durable construction that withstands abrasion with rock and ice, and features tons of attachment points for all the gear you'll need to thrive in harsh environments. The top lid is shaped to secure a rope or helmet with adjustable volume attach points, and a set of adjustable tool attachments and removable tool carries ensure that you'll be able to easily bring along ice-axes and trekking poles. A removable bungee secures crampons when not in use, while the front daisy chain provides extra storage for any spare gear.

To help support your carry on steep pitches and sheer ice faces, this pack has a flexible high-density frame sheet, a compression-molded back panel, and a telescoping yoke to ensure an ideal fit and feel. The waist belt is removable when not needed, and features a sled tie-in loop that lets you keep your expedition sled in tow on mountaineering missions. Removable compression straps let you pull the load in tightly for easier management, while the hydration-compatible design allows for hands free access to water on grueling ascents.

Looked Like a Good Design

I returned this product before using it

This pack looks like a great update to traditional mountaineering pack. Essentially a large stuff sack with good suspension and compression, minimal extras to get in the way and doesn't rely on zippers to keep the main body closed. That's where this pack succeeds. Where it failed me is wearing and using the pack. After fitting the suspension, the frame sheet projected 2 inches above my shoulder line making it annoying to look up while wearing a helmet or brimmed hat. I tried both sizes and could not resolve this problem. Loading and unloading the pack is easy, but the hook closures don't go in/out of their respective loops easily so it's fiddly at best. It's moderately annoying in a warm house, but there's no way I'd have the patience to negotiate these svelte little buckles after an all day winter mountain route with bashed and frozen fingers.
