Awesome at first, let down by details

Great on the surface, big pockets, fits plenty of gear, comfortable and easily adjustable harness system. Bought as a replacement for a 15 year old Black Diamond pack that finally wore out. For the price, I would have expected an access zip through the back pad for when you dump it on the snow. Not a huge deal but most other options have that in this category and the description also said it has one when it actually doesn't... The biggest problem is the clips for waist and chest strap. Rather than use the tried and tested 3-prong on almost every bag in the world they've designed a thin proprietary thing that with the introduction of even the tiniest amount of snow, ice or debris, will absolutely not close. Of course the design is so narrow you need a needle or a car key to push the offending snow out. Pain in the A when you're wearing gloves and floundering at the top of a skin line to push snow out of a simple plastic clip. After a few dozen occurrences I gave up and resorted to tying a knot - thankfully the waist straps are like 10-feet long... Have since cut out the useless clips and installed/sewn in more standard ones that actually work. Also, ice axe loops are flimsy and have a habit of dropping your tools and the upper ski loop has no rigidity, your sticks will flop around all over the place. TL/DR: Decent bag but let down by the small details that others do much better in this price range.

After skiing all season with a ‘make do’ pack, I started shopping for something I could use both inbounds and out. I started by listing the things I didn’t like about the pack I was using. It didn’t fit (too short). It didn’t comfortably carry my avalanche gear. Then I looked for any added ‘bells-and-whistles’. Easily accessible dedicated avalanche-gear storage. Helmet carrier. Finally I looked at the reviews. I’m happy to say that I’m impressed. I highly recommend this pack if what you’re looking for is a well-fitting, chairlift-friendly, well-built day pack that’ll carry your skis/snowboard, avalanche gear and everything you need for a day.

Solid Resort/Side-country Pack

I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I recently used this pack for a long weekend skiing Steamboat resort and the neighboring side-country terrain. I like that it is a slim fit, so you can ride the lift with it on your back no problem. The harness system makes for a great fit that moves well with you body while skiing, it adjusts well to any size body frame, and it is thick enough that I felt like I would have good back protection if I took a tumble. The avy safety pocket is easy to access and easily fits a probe, shovel, and saw. The main compartment is plenty big for some water, food, an extra layer, and a couple other items. The 840D nylon is ultra durable so you don't need to worry about branches or falls ripping up your pack. There is also a nice top pocket for an extra goggle lens, multi-tool, Voile straps, etc. My one gripe with this pack is that this pocket is relatively small and only fits a couple small items. Other small/loose items have to go in the main compartment and can be tricky to fish out of the bottom of the pack. I did not use the helmet carry or the ski carry systems, but they look like good designs and I'm sure they would work well. Overall, a good pack for resort and side country use or a shorter, half day tour. If you want something that is durable and fits well this is a great pack for you.
