Go-to gym bag!

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I've been using the Coulee for my climbing back for the past year and it's been great. My favorite feature is the large stretchy pockets on the outside of the pack where I keep my smelly climbing shoes away from everything else inside. You also get the second to none durability like the rest of the Mystery Ranch line. The buckles, zips, and stitching are of unreal quality. Also, I really love the 3 zip design so you access the gut of the pack in one pull. Great stuff. Give it a shot.

All about the Carry

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

This pack gets everything right. As an landscape photographer I usually have about 30 lbs in my daypack between lenses, cameras, filters, tripods, as well as my regular hiking needs and Im usually out dawn to dusk when I go - so for me, a pack is first and foremost about the carry. Great organization means nothing if your shoulders and back are wrecked. Bottom line: This is now my go to day pack for photography. First hike with the Coulee 40 was 13.4 miles at altitude (9-11K) with about 3800ft of elevation gain to the summit in under 7 miles - A big pants hike for sure. The Coulee was spot on - no neck or should fatigue at all, the weight clearly near the hips, the shoulder and hip belts are well padded, ventilation is good. The organization of the pack is also sneaky good - the 2 water bottle pockets are deep and cinch easy, the 2 lid-pockets are ample for what they carry, and most surprising is how much I love the dual front kangaroo-style pouches. I always think having a big mesh kangaroo style is useful and was doubtful about having 2 small ones instead - but they are bigger than they look and I found them useful for organizing. Ive obnly had the pack a week and 13 miles on it, so durability is TBD - but it looks like it will handle a beating. But again - 5 stars and FULL recommendation based primarily on the super carry capacity and the organization just adds a cherry to the top. Get sized right, fit the pack right, and then just enjoy the ride - because its that easy with this thing.
