Disappointed

There is no way to attach the footprint to the poles. It can easily blow around in windy conditions when trying to set up the tent. This is really unfortunate if setting up in rainy, windy weather

No real footprint - Generic Suck

MSR really missed the boat here, 1st - adding a pocket onto footprint to store the footprint, that is added weight, I cut mine off. I have always stored my footprint folded dirty end inside and then rolled with tent. 2nd, this leaving out the grommets and using string, garbage. I loved the old footprints and going fly with footprint was so easy, everything clicked right into the grommets and bingo bango all done. Get rid of the generic footprints and bring back the old design, using grommets and no sewn in storage pocket. I have searched to the ends of the internet looking for the holy grail, the Nubba Hubba 2 person original footprint. No such luck.

Great fit for my MSR Freelite 2!

The Universal Footprint fit my new Freelite 2 tent perfectly (that tent is awesome too btw). I think I read other reviews that complained about the lack of gromets, but I didn't find this to be a problem at all - the cords in the corners allowed me to easily stake down the tent and footprint at the same time. I did cut off the attached sleeve that the footprint came in to reduce weight, bulk, and the hassle of trying to get it back in neatly - it works fine without it.

No eyelets for outer only pitching!

I lost my original MSR footprint, so bought a new one specifically because I want to be able to pitch outer only. I can't believe MSR have removed the eyelets that allow this - they were the only reason to buy this expensive footprint over a cheap footprint/DIY one(or none at all). Absolutely pointless, do not buy.

Diameter of poles

Hi there - these work great for my tarp. Can you provide any information on the diameter of these poles? I only see length and weight in the specs.

Works great

It’s a tent footprint, can’t go wrong. Don’t understand the whining about lack of grommets. Sure, independent setup would be a little easier if there were matching tabs to clip to the poles, but do what we did - tie it permanently to the tent. Everything still fits in the bag and you don’t have to attach it separately each time - it’s already attached to the tent. Just roll out the tent and you’re done. 60+ setups over 3 years with our Zoic 4, works great.

Older versions were better

Being a universal product means one thing, it fits badly on all products. The new versions do not provide any grommits. Instead, you have to tie one yourself. There is also not clear indication qhich direction is up, as they decided to spare the costs and remove the massive logo in the middle, which helped indicate which way the footprint should be laid. This is the second lousiest product MSR has to offer, which is just slightly better than the Gearshed V2.

I gave a bad review

I gave a bad review because the old design was so much better. The old footprint had grommets that were exactly correct to allow a very quick and accurate set up and takedown. The new model without grommets requires us to jury rig the lines on each corner with a knot then jam the tent pole into the hole created by the knot. It is an inadequate fix with an item that did not require fixing to begin with . I understand that it is more cost effective for the manufacturer to make one that fits all but I would gladly pay more money for the great design that was! The reason I purchased the new Hubba Hubba 1 was for the great design and ease of setting up with the footprint. My last Hubba Hubba 1 served me well for about 20 years until the polyurethane turned to jelly. I guess MSR has joined the other manufacturers whose main goal is profit over product. So sorry to see this. If the old design were offered I would buy another footprint tomorrow. After all of the bad reviews on this footprint, if I were the marketing department I would get a clue and fix the problem. It would make a great advertisement to announce that the favorite old footprint design was back!
