Flick the Strike Igniter from MSR and sparks will be flying before you know it. This lightweight, weather-resistant igniter can light canister or liquid fuel stoves in no time. Small enough to fit on a key chain, yet serious enough to produce 5500° F sparks, this little fellow will join you for any camping trip where matches are either too dangerous or not viable. Its lifespan extends well over 3,000 sparks so you'll be cooking with the Strike Igniter for years to come. Oh, and did we mention the bottle-opener? Priorities, priorities.

    Does work

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Good spark but the steel quality could be better. I textured mine with some file work and that improves the striking surface. Works hot, cold, wet, dry and at any altitude. Dependable fire starter!

    Simple, Useful, Reliable

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The steel and flint pieces of this MSR strike igniter magnet together for storage, and are connected by a lanyard so they don't separate permanently. No frills here, just a dependable spark in any condition, what's not to like?

    Very reliable in harsh conditions

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is what I almost always use to light my MSR reactor. This igniter is reliable in windy and/or wet conditions where other methods (storm lighters/matches) will fail. It produces enough sparks that I always get the stove lit by at least the third try.

I love that you never have to worry about running out of fuel or matches. Although the product does have a limited lifetime (number of uses), it has a long enough lifetime that you don't have to worry about it running out part way through the trip, which can be very reassuring.

It's lightweight, takes up little space, and the magnet helps keep it together so you never have to worry about losing either piece.

    Awesome MSR quality construction

Never imagined a fire steel feeling this well made. Feels like a real tool in your hands, not a piece of trash that's going to break apart. Really nice magnets that keep the two pieces together. Love this thing. Oh yeah and of course it works. Nothing more reliable than a fire steel in all conditions and at all elevations.

      Does its job.

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This does help with my camping stove when the wind blows it out. It helps to conserve matches. I would recommend this to anyone that uses a camping stove.

      Simple & effective

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have one called Fire steel, and it's worked better than carrying a lighter (which can have its own issue in lighting up.) These are simple to use. With liquid fuel stove, pressurize the fuel bottle, then let a little bit of liquid fuel spill out, and scrape the fire steel near it, with the metal piece that's provided, and as long as you block the wind, you'll have fire anywhere. I have mine tie onto my stove, so that it's always there when I need it.

*It'll eventually wear out after many many uses.

      Could Save Your Life

Allright well what can i say other than it is a well designed emergency fire starter! Or if you got something against matches or a lighter well then i feel like this could be your go to flint. In case you dont drink beer (WEIRDO) the notch might actually be good for shaving a gram or two off the total weight...
