Remote 3 Tent: 3-Person 4-Season

I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I can't say this is a full review, I've only used the tent once. However, that once was atop Spruce Knob in WV, highs in the 44F, lows around 34F, 50+ MPH winds. The near freezing mist blowing across the mountain creating condensate on everything. Really miserable conditions. The tent was rock solid and warm. I didn't even realize the tent only comes with enough stakes for a bare bones stake out (you need like 8 to 12 more stakes to use the additional fly tie downs depending on how you count). Didn't matter! In the spruce, but right at the top of a ridge taking a beating all night, solid as a rock. No flapping, no emergency re-stake, no vestibule collapse. Outside the tent, not fun even when fully layered up. Inside the tent, down to our base layer and playing cards like it was our living room. Loved the spaciousness of the tent, an actual comfortable 3 person. A palace for two. The big vestibule was large enough for two packs, and we were using it as an entrance. Didn't really use the small vestibule as we pointed it into the wind. Cooked inside, and the vents were easy to use and worked great. Loved being able to open and close them from inside the tent. Pros - The large opening stuff sack, it made breaking camp in the morning with a wet cold tent easy. Ventilation was so good, I bet I could use this year round with just a slight breeze. Great sized vestibule and tent. Warm even in high winds. Half staked and laughed at the high wind. Plenty of gear loops. Tent is symmetrical, so no need to think while fighting the wind, and the big vestibule can cover either door. Carbon poles super light, super strong. Cons - The vestibule pole sleeve is snug. I don't really know just yet but it's sticky, the pole wouldn't just slide through easily. Carbon poles easy to damage. I hadn't fully engaged the aluminum pole insert into the pole segment, my buddy was faster than me, he flexed the pole and it mildly splintered the pole end. It still held fine all trip, and I plan to just put fiber reinforced tape around it, but be warned. After completely assembled, I bet I could bend the pole in a circle, but with just the tip in a cm, splintered pole segment. Why so few stakes? They're cheap, the tent is expensive, throw in some more stakes. The fourway pole connection. It's easy after you figure it out, but first couple times pitching you won't like it. The fly connects with little rings that hook over the pole ends, I'm not sure how I feel about these yet, but I did have to remove gloves to get them on properly. We'll see how this review ages over time, but at the moment really looking forward to our winter trip. This tent is amazing. Used a 20% off code at Backcountry and for the money, could not have done better.

Great winter tent

We used it for 2 nights while mountain climbing in BC at the end of December. Seems well-built and waterproof.

I love this tent ! Replaced Old MSR Prophet

I use my tents everywhere world wide. I did add adjusters to the loops on periphery of the bottom of fly where there was just loops so i didn't have to remove stakes as tent contracted when drying. When I crawl in I am confident no matter what happens outside I will be safe and dry. I really do love this tent.

Awesome tent!

Seems to be a very well made tent with great features. Now has proper ventilation in the rain fly. I think that was the biggest issue prior to the updated model. I will be back to update this review as soon as the snow flies and I can get it in the mountains! So far, very impressed. I plan to have this for a long time, and it seems like it is sturdy enough that it will hold up well.

Moisture inside tent

Condensation inside and poor waterproof is the top problem of that tent. I visited Iceland, Norway and North part of Finland with that tent. It was terrible that after each night I should dry all my stuff because of condensation. I tried to open all doors it's does not work. No any ventilation in a fly of tent - it's terrible. The worst tent which I used. I strongly recommend MSR to try that tent in countries with hight humidity and rainy weather because of Remote 3 - it's 4 season tent. Frankly speaking I was a fan of MSR but now I'm looking for another tent instead of Remote 3 because I tired to dry tent, dry sleeping bag, dry everything what located in a Remote3.

So bummed!

I loved the room of this tent and huge vestibule. However, I am so bummed that there is no ventilation in the fly at all, and very little ability to cross draft. We tried everything, and as professionals in the industry, we know tents and how to use them. The water cycle was fully present inside this tent, leaving us and our gear inside damp and dripped on. Just returned from guiding a 12 day expedition and was disappointed to deal with major condensation problems. Great job on the lightweight, roomy design, but please, add vents!
