Why We Like The MSR Reactor 1.0L Stove System

When on the trail it is important to keep our pack light and be able to boil water on a whim, which is why we carry the MSR Reactor 1.0L Stove System. This lightweight stove offers a 1L capacity which works well for one or two people, while the small fuel compatibility allows for extra space in your pack.

Can't be repaired

I love this cooking system. However, on a 10 day sea kayaking trip in SE Alaska my Reactor failed without explanation. It simply wouldn't pass fuel through. No field repair was possible. When I called MSR I was told "this happens sometimes" and was reminded that I could always soak my food and eat it cold. I had to purchase a new cooking unit. I continue to use the system because it works so well but will never again take it on an extended trip without a backup system.

Best stove ever

Boils water very fast. It’s small and easy to pack. The lid packs down and functions really well. The components all pack internal so the overall size stays small. It’s very user friendly and can be operationally in a matter of seconds.

Hot water on demand

Whoever said "a watched pot never boils" didn't have a Reactor. One of my most satisfying purchases ever.

1.0L version needs a nesting bowl

I really like the Reactor system. Super fast and efficient. The 1.7L nests nicely with the Deep Dish bowl. This is great when melting snow because you can put the canister in water and keep the fuel from freezing. The 1.0L needs a similar (smaller) nesting bowl! I would love it if MSR made a Deep Dish cup/bowl that nested on the bottom in the same way as the 1.7L does. Please, MSR, if you’re listening, make a Deep Dish cup/bowl for the 1.0L Reactor!

Bomb Proof

I have owned the Reactor since 2010 and used it as a 2-person stove to hiked the PCT, Arizona trail, trips to Alaska in all types of weather conditions and never a problem, heats so fast you cannot turn your back and found 8 oz fuel can do 5 days hot meals breakfast and dinner for two. I still own the original MSR...just can't part with its many decades of adventure memories. Will be rowing from Seattle to Alaska in May 2022 with our Reactor!

amazing stove

I have used this stove for multiple paddle camping trips, hiking, car camping, and even just an outing to the local parks. It's reliable, efficient, gas saving, and burns water fast in any situation I have faced so far. The speed it boils water is unparalleled. I'm buying a delux stove for other cooking purposes.

Stove Fits Fine In 1L Pot

No idea what some reviewers are talking about but they're giving bad info. The 110g cartridge goes in first upside down followed by the burner upside down to nest into the concave base of the gas cartridge. The control valve needs to be screwed in and laying flat to one side. When the burner is placed in the valve nests into the extra space created by the pour spout and the opposite side sits deeper which accommodate the rubber plug on the lid. It's a snug fit but it can absolutely be done anytime you want without "bending the pot" or otherwise forcing it in.
