Why We Like The Hubba NX Tent

The MSR Hubba NX Tent makes it easy to escape the daily grind without having to coordinate schedules or sacrifice valuable time on the trail to the whims of others. The weight—a mere 2lb 7oz—is the kind of lightness we can feel when we're packed. Multiple mesh windows and an innovative fly design give great cross-ventilation for solid airflow in all weather. A unique use of materials minimizes weight since we're not sharing the load with a backpacking pal.

The bathtub floor uses strong but light 30D ripstop nylon to stand guard against intrusive rocks or tricky twigs. The combination of DWR and 3000mm Xtreme coating resists entreaties by incoming water so you and your sleeping bag stay dry from the bottom up. A clever blend of mesh and ripstop nylon lets fresh air flow through the body of the tent while giving you the privacy for a full-body tick check.

Hubba NX Test

I just took the Hubba NX for a trip last weekend. It was awesome! I have been Hammock Camping for the past 5 years and was always cold in the mornings. Being on a pad on the ground was very comfortable, and much warmer. I also had space inside the tent for my gear. The setup was easy and only took minutes. I really enjoy the switch from Hammock to Tent. You guys did a great job. Looking forward to my first backpacking trip with it.

This tent is super light

This tent is super light and packs very well. I put the poles on the side of my pack and it can pack very small without the poles in the bag. It has kept me super dry in heavy rain and kept the condensation at bay on humid days. Great tent.

Wrong sized poles came with the tent

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This tent seems like a very high quality tent. Unfortunately it came with the wrong sized poles and I did not realize this until I was on a backpacking trip in Colorado. So this review is really just to encourage people to set up their backpacking equipment at least once before taking it into the backcountry. Using a lot paracord I was able to set up the tent for two nights and fortunately it wasn't too windy or rainy. It would be nice if it had a footprint with it but I know some people don't use footprints to cut down on weight anyway. Big thanks to backcountry for giving me the opportunity to return this tent for free. Their service was excellent!

Great, solid tent.

Super light tent for my multi night backcountry hikes in the Cascades. The solo tent is perfect, well because I snore.

Looking forward to many more adventures with this tent!

I have only used this tent for three nights so this review will have to get updated when I get a chance to use it more. Product benefits include being super lightweight, crazy easy to setup, ample room for a sleeping bag/pad + some essential gear inside the tent, plenty of room to sit up for changing or sitting in your camp chair to read if it's raining or the bugs are fierce, and good storage space in the outside vestibule. Because the nights I used it were dry, I cannot speak to the waterproof capabilities yet. On the other hand, the nights I used the tent were windy and because the rain fly sits fairly high off the ground along the long-edge of the tent the wind easily blew inside the tent making it rather chilly inside. I'll also need to play around with the rain fly a bit more to see if I can make it more taut. In the wind, it flapped quite a bit. That might be just be first user error so I'll spend some time perfecting the setup before heading out for the next trip.

Amazing tent, amazing service from Cascade Design

I love my Hubba NX, which I bought in 2014 as a new backpacker (even though I'm in my 50s). It has been light weight, easy to care for, easy to set up, takes me where I wanna go. Everything has been in great shape until on my last trip, I noticed that the seams of the tent were flaking off. I called Cascade Designs and spoke with a helpful man who told me to send the tent to them and they would figure out if it could be repaired or if they would send me a new one. I sent it in last Monday and they did unbelievable turn-around service for me and I have today (9 days later) I just received a replacement tent. They absolutely stand behind their products and their products, in my experience, are beautifully made and reliable. Thank you, Cascade Designs.

POLYURETHANE SEAL HAS MELTED AND TENT IS DESTROYED

I hadnt used my hubba tent for several months and pulled it out to find the polyurethane in the material seems to have gone soft and sticky. It would not appear it is going to dry as such and will therefore make the tent unusable... so disappointing, had been a great tent otherwise.

Awesome tent, performed well in heavy rain

Used for the first time in heavy rain. Tent performed very well. Heaps of space inside and easy to erect/take down. Very happy with the purchase - an awesome tent.

Light and convenient but not good in wind/cold

I took this camping in the desert and ate dirt all night. There is no way to keep all dirt from coming through the mesh because you cant zip the mesh shut. I didnt realize this when I purchased it and dont do much desert camping but it was cold and dirty. I have no problem with dirt its just not pleasurable when it blows in your eyes ears nose and mouth while you are trying to sleep...
