Why We Like The Elixir Tent

We pack the MSR Elixir Tent whether we're headed out for a solo backpacking trip along our favorite ridgeline or we're joining some friends for a climbing and camping trip in the desert for a weekend. This 1-person, 3-season shelter comes with its own rainfly and footprint so we have all the protection we need for a comfortable night under the stars or even in a storm. The Elixir was designed to be comfortable enough to sit in, stash gear in the vestibule, and to stay dry if the weather takes a turn for the worst. Lightweight, fast, and easy to set up, the Elixir straps on to our backpacks easily, and it's durable enough to be thrown in the car with the rest of our weekend gear.

  • An extremely livable solo tent for backpacking or weekend camping trips
  • Includes rainfly and footprint so you'll be set to camp right away
  • Color-coordinated pole setup system for fast and easy pitching
  • Gear loft stores headlamps and maps
  • Large vestibule covers gear that don't fit inside
  • Glow-in-the-dark zippers for easy zipping in the dark

My Tiny Home on The Trail

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Fit:
Runs small
Height
5` 9"
Weight
185 lbs

I spent the last 15 years using an MSR Zoid 1 which is just a glorified bivy sack. I picked the Elixir 1 because it has a big (for a solo tent) vestibule. I live in the PNW and I need room under the fly to cook and keep my stuff dry. Plenty of head room (for me), lots of extra length. Before I purchased, I read that it was not as wide as advertised. I would have to agree. The width is not an issue for me but if you use an extra wide sleeping pad it may not fit. It is heavier than other solos...but it also uses a lot more tent fabric in the body than other solos and has a bigger vestibule.

Awesome customer services from MSR

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Fit:
True to size

I have used it few times last summer and have not put it through the wringer yet. I only thought it is not as breathable as I would like it to be. But I want to say about MSR customer services! Wow! I was extremely impressed! One of my poles broke last weekend and they shipped me everything I needed for repair within a day!! I got it next morning! MSR stands for its name! Bravo! I was up in the mountains! with no time!
