Why We Like The Gear Shed
If we want to turn our backpacking tent into a basecamp shelter, deck it out with the MSR Elixir Gear Shed. Compatible with MSR's Elixir 2 and 3 tents, this ripstop polyester vestibule is treated with PU, silicone, and DWR treatments, so it can keep gear dry and happy while enjoying all the extra space that comes with keeping packs and shoes in their own shelter.

The perfect storm setup
Combined with the Hubba Hubba 2 it was the perfect tent for a 16 day bike tour across Oregon in late October. Lot's of space to store wet gear and to cook in a storm.

Works great
Easy to set up. Durable. Everything stayed dry. It was everything I expected.

Well designed, adds versatility
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I will mostly use this for bike touring to add storage. It is up to MSR standards and fits the Hubba Hubba well. I had no issues with leakage in pretty heavy rain and it sets up easy. It is low to climb into but I still can use the other side of the tent for easier entrance. I would rather the lower profile to keep it from being a sail since the Hubba Hubba is my designated bad weather tent. It packs into the bag easy too. I did seam seal it but that?s just a habit, I?d rather be safe than sorry! Can?t wait for bike touring season!

Good for extra storage, but cheaper than expected
Easy to carry but the material is cheaper and leak a little.

awesome tent accessory

it's awesome accessory to extend your tent space. but the color is grey and red, not white and red. i have a mutha bubba tent and it's white and red. i'm thinking to return this because the information on web page is wrong.

Worth its weight on your back
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
Used this on several multi-day trips now and it's fantastic. Especially if you're somewhere rainy, like crossing Iceland. It keeps everything organized, and close, and is well thought-out. Makes a light backpacking camp and a small tent feel like a basecamp.

Good product
Really liked it. Sheltered gear (camera, clothing, etc) during multi day one site stop. Tarp could work but trees in right location needed.

Worth buying
Great for dirty gear but does not connect directly to the main tent ( bugs/ weather can get in ). No easy solution to remedy. 5/5 for gear shed and 3/5 for extending your main tent for additional backpacking space. Fits in with the main tent bag.

handy but inferior quality compared to tent (hubba bubba)
We used the gear shed in the French Alps and while the 'mother' tent held up very well in humidity and rain (the hubba bubba 2p from 2019, which performed perfectly), the gear shed is made from a cheaper, less durable material: after 1 night of normal to heavy rain, it was leaking through (we made sure nothing was touching the tent from the inside) - not very handy when wanting to keep your gear dry! (which, I think, is kind of the purpose of a gear shed). For the price of the gear shed (and for design consistency), why not use the same material as for the hubba bubba outer tent?
