Fly failure

I have the Elixir 3 tent and love the design of the tent. It is easy to assemble and the doors are large and the zippers are high quality. It withstands high wind extremely well. I'd give it 4 or 5 stars for that, but unfortunately the waterproofing on the fly is poor. After only 4 years the seam tape has completely degraded and the fabric is no longer waterproof. I always take great care of my camping gear and pack it clean and dry. I switched to the MSR Elixir 3 to have a bigger tent for all my gear since I only camp from my vehicle. Trying to decide whether to try a re-waterproof the fly or get a new tent.

When it rains it’s poor

Tent is great , good layout, zippers etc but the rain fly material was awful , it peeled away on our second use, and we got completely wet. Clear material defect. Contacted MSR twice ( email and pictures) was auto replied that MSR would be follow up it’s been over a year and nothing. Tent is unfortunately useless now without a rain fly.

Works great but creates a lot of condensation. It's been really good on rainy days. Great for car camping or camping with dogs. The corner straps sometimes get twisted to one side of the pole when stretching them. When the tent is fully stretched, the doors get too close to the face of the edges people, sometimes annoying and easy to get wet with condensation.

very poor rainfly

The tent itself is good, but the rainfly awning is not waterproof at all. It rains outside and it rains lightly inside. Where I can buy the 100% waterproof rainfly?

Poor rain fly

I used my tent 4 Times and the rain fly starts flaking away. It is 100% not waterproof. I wrote to the compagny and I never got feedback... I will never buy again from them

MSR elixir 3

Great tent if it doesn’t rain. Almost felt like didn’t even have a fly on . First time used it backwoods camping and it was raining inside. Tried contacting but no support

MSR Elixir 3

I have had my Elixir 3 for 4 years. Used < 20 nights. I received the first good solid rain since I had the tent and it leaks like a sieve. The tent has been well cared for. Spent hours replacing sealing tape which was degrading plus other attempts to get the tent and fabric to seal with limited results. This tent is a fail on 1 of the 2 things it must do. Very disappointed.

Tent poles break at joint way to easily.

I love MSR products but the tent pole system on this tent is a really poor design. I am not a novice camper/tent setter upper and I’ve NEVER broken a tent pole before. This tent has two joints where the two poles are locked together and creates a really weak spot for the tent poles. I was following the set up instructions and the pole piece that slides through the joint and then into the other end of the next pole segment snaps off right at the joint. It’s happened twice now and I was even being extra careful this second time because I saw how easy it happened the first time. I would never buy this tent again because of that pole set up. Because it’s at a joint you can’t repair it either. The little repair sleeves can’t pass over the break. Hopefully MSR will send me a new pole segment so I can try to repair it (again). Otherwise the tent itself is great and I would give it 5 stars. But make sure you bring a big roll of duct tape if you plan to use these poles.
