As tough as you need it to be.
The MSR 2-Person 4-Season Advance Pro 2 Tent is an excellent option if bagging peaks and sleeping in precarious, exposed terrain is your cup of tea. Proven on some of the world's rowdiest routes, the Advance Pro's single-wall design is reinforced by nearly indestructible Easton Syclone poles. And since you'll be pitching it on technical micro-ledges and no-fall zones, the Pro 2 is designed to utilize a time-saving pole sleeve that allows you to set the tent up from one spot, without having to navigate sketchy footing in the stormy darkness. Engineered for dedicated alpinists, this four-season sanctuary is more than enough to handle almost anything you can throw at it.

- Q & A
A terrific Specialized tent!
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
I've used this tent on a number of solo ascents in the pacific north west (Rainier, Baker, Shuksan, Adams, etc). This is a terrific tent if all you are looking for is bombproof protection, a tiny footprint, with as much weight savings as possible for 1-2 people. It is ideal for high altitude mountaineering because it is super sturdy but because it is a single wall tent it does not breath as well as double walled tents. It does have vents but you still get condensation at lower elevations. There are no bug nets or pockets. This is not a tent that you would want to spends days in just hanging out. For that purpose look at hilleberg tents. But for a focused climber this is an ideal tent. The craftsmanship and materials are top notch!
Is this tent waterproof -i.e. during an alpine rainstorm?
Hey Ivar! Most definitely, yeah! The walls are 20D nylon ripstop that is specifically made to keep out the water and snow. It is definitely completely waterproof, no problem there. If you need anything, check out my contact details above!
