    The happy medium.

Wear a jacket too heavily insulated and you're going to overheat once you start to move; wear a jacket too light and you're going to freeze as soon as you stop to take a break. The Mountain Hardwear Men's Superconductor Insulated Jacket sits somewhere between a heavy insulator and light windbreaker with a mid-weight double weave fabric that blocks wind and light synthetic insulation that offers breathable warmth whether you're moving at a quick clip on the trail or taking a break to enjoy the views and fall foliage.

    • A midweight jacket for cool-weather hikes and active pursuits
    • Water-resistant synthetic insulation offers lightweight warmth
    • Full-zip front can be opened up for ventilation
    • Stretch-woven face fabric resists wind and foul weather
    • Item #MHW00SU

Worst jacket fit and piss-poor quality

    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 6'3"
    • Weight: 195lbs

Right out of the gate this jacket was an epic dud, firstly because both cord locs on the drawstring were defective and didn't keep the drawcord cinched. Secondly, despite being 6'3", with a long torso and arms, this jacket is apparently made for giants, because the sleeves are about 4" too long and the torso also too long by far. If you're not planning on layering this jacket, you'll find it runs large in the chest size too. Based on the level of insulation I would also rate this jacket poorly, because at 100g of the insulation, this feels like it would be about as warm as a 60g or 80g Primaloft jacket...most likely the 60g.

    Beautiful Jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 180lbs

I have only had the opportunity to wear the jacket outdoors on a couple of occasions. I love the shell fabric and the quilt lining, and it looks great. I don't know how warm it is yet, but it is very comfortable. My only complaint is that the sleeves are too long, though the body of the jacket fits just right.

    Nice cool weather softshell

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 200lbs

This jacket runs larger than typical MH sizing, but at 5'10", 200lbs and size 44 chest, this jacket in size large fits well, with room underneath for a primoloft or thermoball down vest. I've worn it to work in an office setting and it works fine for driving. I would rate it comfortable in the 30-45degree range by itself,. Have worn a dozen times, but only in Winter so far. I appreciate the smooth outer shell face with the quilting on the inside. No inside pocket, but that might be difficult due to the synthetic insulation quilting. Very light, weighs less than my North Face Apex softshell.

    Warm Jacket Less Bulk

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 180lbs

I purchased this jacket in the Forest Green and it looks great. I've worn the jacket in windy, cold temperatures that have been in the single digits, and have remained warm without any chills. The jacket is very lightweight and not bulky at all. I'm about 5'10", 180 lbs. and the size Medium fits me great, with room to wear some layers underneath. The outside material does not feel very heavy like other brand softshell jackets that are fleece-lined, but it does a great job of resisting the wind and precipitation. Again, not bulky at all, but does a great job of keeping in the warmth!
