Stay organized on your next climb.

The Mountain Hardwear Splitter 40 Backpack features plenty of pockets so that you'll know where every piece of your rig is once you get to the rock. The Splitter's panel-loading design means that you can open this pack, lay it flat on the rock, and see your chalk, shoes, harness, rope, and webbing cleverly organized in climbing-specific pockets.

To keep you comfortable on the trek to the crag, the Splitter has a removable HardWave suspension that conforms to the curve of your back and distributes weight evenly, as well as a padded waist belt for stability and an internal compression panel that keeps your heavy gear close to your back to prevent it from throwing you off balance. A stowable rope strap holds your rope on the way and hides away when you don't need it. Two zippered internal pockets keep your gear secure and organized so everything is in the right place when you get to your route.

Great Travel Bag

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I bought this after looking at many many travel and all around packs. I love the way it folds all the way open. Super easy access to all my clothes and gear. The internal pockets are great for my dopp kit, electronics, etc. It's plenty burly for the crag so it's overbuilt for travel but that's no detriment. I had it loaded up to about 40lbs, very comfortable suspension system. The front pocket would benefit from a full U zip but other than that no complaints.

Great Travel bag, very reasonable price!

Great climbing bag

This bag is pretty sweet. After doing some research on it I am considering purchasing it (even though I really do not need yet another backpack). Really nice that it comes with a rope tarp and it also has many pockets to compartmentalize gear and valuables.

    Unanswered Question

I purchased a Splitter 40 (current version) not too long ago and was messing around and pulled the aluminum stay out. Like a dummy, I didn't take a mental note of how it came out. Could you send me a picture or a description of the correct orientation this gets inserted into the pack. Thank you for any information you can provide.
