Backcountry fluency for skiers who have earned it.

If your favorite ski days start when the alarm sounds at 5 a.m. and end when twilight falls, look no further—the Mountain Hardwear Rogue Composite Jacket is designed just for you. With fluency in bombing lines in the backcountry and skinning up ridges, it's ready for everything from cold midwinter tours and to spring corn harvests.

From the outside in, you'll start by finding an packable 2.5-layer shell that offers mechanical stretch to move with you—this shields you from ice and wind that try to penetrate to your core. Underneath is a Polartec Alpha insulated jacket that's breathable, water-resistant, and removable for those warmer days. You can access the pockets of the inner jacket through two harness-and-pack-compatible core vents on the shell, which allow for easy heat dumping and minimal bulk. When the wind starts to whip, you can throw the helmet-compatible hood on over top of everything and cinch it down tightly to keep the storm on the outside.

    • All-in-one solution for skiing in the resort or backcountry

    So far so good.

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 210lbs

I have three other MH jackets as well as other accessories that I love so when it became time to look for a new ski jacket I decided to stick with what I have had good luck with.

I purchased the Rouge for mostly resort skiing, maybe some light back country runs but I have other articles I wear for that.

    Pros:
    - light weight
    - Super wind resistant ( so far the one day I have used it it was blowing 35 gust to 45.
    - Was good in the glades and dumped heat when needed with ease.
    - what snow was blowing up the trails and off of trees did not penetrate the shell. I haven’t had a good snow ski in it yet.

    Cons
    - I typically wear a large with MH coats so that is what I bought this coat in and it seems a little bit small. Still fits, it is just snug.
    - the liner coat is a bit difficult to zip up if the powder skirt is not snapped.

The cons are pretty minor in my opinion and would not deter me from buying this coat or any other MH coat again. The pros are pretty “standard” of my previous experiences with MH coats so I am over all very pleased with it. I hope to update this review after I get some more turns in.

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size

Bought this as a gift for a friend who was getting into snowboarding and needed a jacket, so far he has had nothing but good things to say about it. Will definitely update if I hear anything new on the piece!
