Rook Sleeping Bag

Whether you've hiked miles down the trail or you're sleeping a few feet from your car, the Mountain Hardwear 15 Degree Down Rook Sleeping Bag is designed to help you get the best night's sleep you can. Its 650-fill down insulation lofts to form an insulating barrier between you and the chilly night around you, while a DWR finish sheds any condensation to prevent it from collapsing the down. The women-specific design means this version of the Rook has extra insulation in vulnerable areas to prevent heat loss, while still maintaining the mummy shape which makes it lighter weight and more efficient.

I LOVE IT. Before you get too excited, I've had a lower-end, heavier down bag for years as a Boy Scout leader. I hiked Philmont with it, so I more than got my money's worth, but THIS bag is another dimension. I'm 5'6" and the top completely covers my head. I was so warm and toasty. The zipper was smooth and didn't get stuck on the fabric like my other bag. The inside had plenty of room for my size 11 feet and my overweight body. I didn't feel stuffed into this bag like my previous bag. I'm a side sleeper and frequently toss and turn. I didn't get all tangled, again like my previous bag. I was SOOO happy. And the color just makes me smile. Well worth the money.

These sleeping bags are so nicely made, cozy warm, and have an excellent feel to them. I just love snuggling up in them. However, they don't zip together. I bought an RH and LH thinking they would mate. They don't. Both zippers are on the top piece of fabric. Then, I thought, hmmm... does this mean the Men's RH zips to the Women's LH? I called Mountain Hardware and they said that's not the case either. Turns out, none of their Rook model sleeping bags are compatible to zip together. They said if you want sleeping bags that zip together, go for their Bishop's Pass models. Or, browse their website looking for "zip together functionality". Anyway, I ended up keeping the Rook bags despite this issue. They are really nice.
