Style to warmth ratio.
From Telluride to New York City, the Mountain Hardwear Women's Ratio Down Vest maintains furnace-like fervor and style that's equally at home in the mountains as it is in the city. First and foremost, the Ratio features a retro-inspired chevron baffling that maintains a sporty yet chic look. Additionally, the Q.Shield down is fashioned with a water-resistant treatment to maintain loft and warmth in less than savory conditions while the large, high-loft channels allow the down to trap ridiculous amounts of body heat. And, the two hand pockets boast zippers to ensure your valuables and necessities stay close at hand and secure.

Hoped for more
- Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
- Fit: Runs large
- Size Bought: Small
I ordered this vest hoping for a warm vest to wear while ice climbing that would minimize arm bulk. However, the vest fits very long, far longer than my toosh, and has a boxy, bulky sizing in the abdomen area. For my build this vest would not work, especially in a climbing setting. I unfortunately had to return the item. But if you're looking for a longer fit with abdomen area room, this is a great vest that seemed to offer good warmth.
mountain hardware is the best
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Fit: True to size
I love their jackets, they tend to last forever, this is the first time getting a down vest for my wife, she loves it, she is petite and everything fits a bit big for here which should be true to size... also seems to be helping with the spring weathers.

I had been looking for a black down vest to wear to work, and my mom gave me this one for Christmas. I like that it has a longer fit than my Patagonia down sweater vest. Unlike most down vests it is not flared out at the hips, which fits my narrow frame well, and the armholes are small enough that they don't gape but large enough to layer a sweater underneath. The collar is wonderfully snuggly! It's bulkier than several other down vests available, so don't buy it if you're looking for a super sleek silhouette, but doesn't make me look like a marshmallow. It keeps me cozy but not overheated.
