    waterproof fail and zipper fights

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

I hate to not like an MH product, but this one just isn't going to cut it. MH replaced a leaking jacket instead of repairing a leak. This was my choice, and I'm so unhappy. The right arm always feels damp. My husband keeps saying it's my imagination because the fabric feels wet -- but really? It's only my right arm and it always feels like the rain is coming through. Yes, I've treated it to see if that helps, but this has gone on from day 1. I'm an avid outdoorsy girl, have owned many different goretex or wp jackets -- none have leaked like this until a few years old. I would not recommend this jacket for this reason alone, but there is more.
The zipper is always a fight. I can fuss with it for a good 5 minutes before I get it to close. Also, I wish I'd known that the chest pocket was not included in the women's version.

Just not a good outdoor solution. Fine if darting around from car to store or office, but a bad choice for real outdoor activity -- which is why I am here looking for a better option.

    good potential

I bought his jacket for my daughter for backpacking trip last spring to the Southwest. She stated that the jacket was great for layering on the cool mornings of the desert and had room to layer when it got chilly, not too mention it helped keep her cool in Utah when she only layered with a t shirt. She said it was the perfect jacket for that climate. On the way back, they detoured through Pisgah in NC. While hiking it started raining and since it was already humid in the mountains that morning she only had a t-shirt on and said that from her sweat, the humidity and lack of breathe ability of the jacket it was miserable and sticky. Great for high alpine weather but not for humid infested states.

    For My Wife

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: Runs small

My wife commented once that she didn't have a rain coat, and would just wear a sweatshirt and use an umbrella if she needed to go out in the rain. That seemed like a terrible idea to me. She's not outdoorsy, but we have two little boys who aren't inclined to let a little rain prevent them from going outside. She needed a rain jacket. She looked at it half heartedly, but wanted me to send it back. Then it rained. And rained. A lot. The kids were going bananas and she finally tried out the jacket and went out. She said she'll keep it, and I call that a win. It kept her dry and I thought it looked cute on her.

I bought it a little larger so that is can also function as a shell in colder weather for multiple layers... and because she's pregnant. But it seems to run pretty fitted, if not small.

    Keeps Me Dry!

I've been out in multiple rainstorms in this jacket, and I've come out toasty and dry every single time while others in my group have gotten soaked. No pit zips make it a little difficult to vent, but I've finally found a rain jacket that does it's job and I'm not letting go any time soon.

      Perfect and Breathable

I ordered 4 other rain jackets before this one. All were either the wrong material, wrong fit, or had elements I didn't like. This jacket is perfect. I needed a breathable rain jacket for fly fishing. Weather conditions change quickly when fishing, so I needed something that I could have on me in the event of a shower or high winds. I also needed a jacket without velcro on the collar. My hair gets stuck in it and that is most annoying. This was one of the only rain jackets I found sans velcro! This jacket also has a high collar which is handy when I need some sun and wind protection. The hood folds up, so when it is not raining I can still wear it without the hood getting in the way. I was in New Mexico on the San Juan River for this jackets maiden voyage, and it was chilly in the morning before the sun was directly on me. I kept the jacket on in the New Mexico sun and never got hot. I love the breathability of it. That is hard to find. I haven't had a chance to test this jacket in heavy rain, but so far its amazing. I am very pleased and the price made it very affordable.

I bought this jacket in the Navel Orange, I was a little unsure about the color but I actually love the 'in your face' brightness. Trial by fire when I took it camping in Montana and it rained the ENTIRE weekend. The weather didn't stop us and luckily this jacket kept me dry. I'm 5'7" 125lbs and I bought the Small. Its large enough to wear with a sweatshirt (I even fit my down coat underneath) but form fitting enough that if I wear it alone I don't look like I'm being swallowed by poncho. Bought it on sale; I'm a fan.

A go to piece for rainy days or windy days when you just want more protection from the elements. Light and packs up small. Durable fabric for scrambling around on rocks and or running through the forest. Simple and performs it's job! Great jacket to have. Not to mention the breathability of the Dry Q technology. A huge plus for active people.

Does this jacket have armpit vents? The Mountain Hardwear website says the men's version does, but doesn't say whether the women's version does/does not
