title

Improved beefy zipper, and an impressive amount of down for the weight lead to a parka I grab first

Great belay parka

Great belay parka for the price. Would be a five star jacket but my women's version started pulling apart at the side seams and down feathers began to fall out with very little use (half season/5 outings). Something to consider when making your purchase decision. Order your normal size!

Phantom Parka is phantastic!

Light, warm and compressible! I wore it on a successful climb of Mt.Rainier and it kept me toasty!

Great jacket for cold weather.

Fit is great very roomy for an under layer. Great coverage of the body neck and head. Material is adequately durable. Compared to other similar jackets I have not quite as lofty but will do the job.

Phantom Down Park - Nice

High quality jacket. Runs large as noted on Mountain Hard Wear. I did not size down because I wanted it to fit over multiple other layers.

Semi-disappointng

The arms seem to have many cold spots. There is no down in the inner elbow and inner arm area. Even in temperatures of about 5 degrees Celsius, the arm is noticeably cold. I have tried throwing it in the drier with tennis balls and that hasn't been able to move the down back into the arm area. Last but not least, I thought the jacket was supposed to come with a stuff sack but it didnt?

Fit and use notes

Just got this and psyched on it. TLDR: despite other reviews, for actual mountain/climbing use, I would recommend sizing up if you are on the fence. A great parka but not for casual use. I'm 6'1" 210 lbs and typically wear men's L tshirts. Fairly broad shoulders, 35 inch waist. I got this in a large, based on recommendations in other reviews. For wearing with a tshirt around town that is right. For layering over a softshell or some midlayers it works for me without compressing the down but if I were planning to use this on overnight, truly cold trips, I'd want it in XL to go over more layers, like a bulkier synthetic puffy, and don't think that would be too big. In L for me this is a slightly more trim fit, like what I'd want in something I would be moving in (no conditions I can imagine moving in with this on and not sweating it out). I can wear it over a thinner down midlayer or something like an atom lt. Other notes: I'm pleased with all the features, from the helmet compatible hood to the sleeve length and ends, the interior pockets, the materials used, and the baffle construction and fill. This will be a super awesome ice climbing belay jacket. Not what I would choose for a beat it up camping puffy (materials probably too thin and jacket too warm) much less a daily wear thing, but sized up would be a good 'Denali in standard season' piece. The outer material is kind of crinkly but I think will do well in snow or some spray and really well in wind.

Very light and very warm

Very light and super warm! The fabric is very thin (because it is so lightweight), so be gentle to it, looks like it could easily tear. Why 4 starts and not 5? I wish the parka could pack itself into a pocket (so I don't have to cart around a stuff sack for it), but that is not the case for some reason.

Puff life is the life for me.

When I put this jacket on it make me feel like I am floating on a cloud. It's warm packable and a good fit. (it's definitely not lardium) It has got some steeze. This is my favourite puffy I have ever put on. It would be nice if they had some more stealthy colours, but the feeling this puffy gives is worth looking like you want to be seen.

Amazing puffy

I like the cut, the weight, the warmth of this jacket. I really appreciate that longer fit and for wearing it by -30’c, it keeps me really warm, I Love it. Also it packs small in my backpack but I just wish it would have come with a compression bag or some compression system.
