    Crags are best climbed cold.

You might feel the chill when you're belaying, but climbing in the cold can feel like an absolute necessity for redpoints. The rock has better friction, your palms sweat less, and your body feels less heated in the Mountain Hardwear Men's Metonic Hoodie. Mountain Hardwear made it out of Polartec Delta fabric for phenomenal temperature control capabilities that warms you up on the belay and cools you off on the climb.

    Comfortable, not durable

    • Height: 6'0"
    • Weight: 205lbs

I bought this shirt to add to my growing list of hoody's to use as base layers. The fabric on it is really thin. When you stretch it you can nearly see through it. I'm 6'0, about 205 lbs, and a large fits me great. For comparison I wear a size large in a Patagonia Tropic Comfort II as well.

So far I've used it on a day hike and a day of multi-pitching. It's really breathable, comfortable against the skin, and quick drying. Near as I can tell there is no odor-treatment though, which is kind of a negative. Because of the thin fabric I wouldn't recommend this for cold temperatures unless you plan to keep a layer on the whole time. For spring and summer it's perfect though. The hood isn't sized to go over a helmet, but it's stretchy enough that you can make it work, albeit it's not super comfortable. Torso and sleeve length are climber friendly and fairly long.

My main gripe with the shirt is the durability is really lacking. After two days of use and two washes, there are three runs in the fabric, one small hole, and a large section of pilling on the back. Not really what I would expect for something marketed towards climbers. I would suspect if you are fairly rough on gear you will run this into the ground quickly. It's a shame because I think this could end up one of my favorite hoody's, especially for warm weather.

So far I am really digging this new material produced from Polartec called Delta. And the application in this sun hoodie is very well designed and incredibly comfortable. Especially for warm climates with lots of sun this shirt is great. It pulls moisture off you skin and acts a true moisture wicking layer. The only reason I am not giving this five stars is due to some small pilling I have experienced from climbing in this jacket.
In comparison to other sun hoodies like the Tropic Comfort this is lighter weight, better hand feel and much more breathable. If you are looking for an additional layer to keep those hot days climbing, biking, or running more bearable this is a great addition to your quiver. The sizing is true and is a more of an athletic American cut. I went with the large and it fits great.

    Stay dry, but cool!

I'm a big fan of sun-shirts for climbing and hiking during the summer; I hate being all lathered up with greasy sunscreen. While this shirt doesn't have an actual UPF rating or true UV protection, it's still great and does it's job well. The new Polartec Delta fabric is awesome; it wicks the moisture away from your skin like a lot of other fabrics do, but it doesn't stick to your skin and is still incredibly breathable when wet. It manages to hold on to just the right amount of moisture, keeping your skin feeling cool but not clammy.

I really like the chest pocket and the thumb holes on the sleeves, but I don't love the hood. It fits very close to the head, and I'd prefer a looser fit that would better accommodate a climbing helmet. The fit is perfect though! I bought a Medium and its just right; athletic, not too tight and not too loose. Durability is questionable, but it's held up well so far.

If you like to play outside in the sun during summer, but don't like your sweaty clothes sticking to your skin, give this shirt a shot!

    Polartec (delta) summer fabric!

Polartec and Mountain Hardwear knocked it out of the park with this top. The fabric is amazingly cool when on your skin in the hot sun. When you've had enough sun, or you have fair skin and need protection pick this piece up! Keep your chapstick, or credit card in the chest pocket and know it won't fall out if you fall off your SUP. The hood has a really nice neck line that when it's over your hat or head covers your neck so you are fully protected.

    you need this now!

wow. honestly wow, this shirt is amazing! I wear it probably too much to the point people think its all I have lol. the material is grid tech style, soft, and abrasion resistant. I climb, hike, fish, you name it in this thing, the neck has a built in balaclava hood that fits great and is tight to your head so that you can wear your hat over it. I have it in every color now, you need this!!
