A compact rock climbing pack that is at home on the approach and at the crags.
When you're out at the crags for the day, you want a no-nonsense pack that is tough, compact, and durable. The Mountain Hardwear Hueco 20 Backpack fits that bill perfectly. The Hueco's padded shoulder straps offer excellent fit and comfort, and its large zip-top opening gives you easy access to your gear. The simple, no-fuss layout allows for a good amount of organization, without all the get-in-your-way straps and frills of some packs. A reinforced grab handle adds tough functionality, and a stowable rope strap deploys when you need it and hides away when you don't.

Great technical daypack
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
So far I've used this pack as both a summit pack for climbing and a daypack for wandering around Europe. It's definitely a technical pack--don't get it if you want a combo climbing and everyday pack. The sleek design is very comfortable, and although it can sometimes be a pain to get big water bottles into the internal side pockets, it's worth it to know it won't get snagged as you make a big move.
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I bought this pack as a simple day pack to stuff gear in for climbs, hikes, etc. I love the convenient way to get into the bag from the top. It also is very sleek to wear as it tappers down at the bottom. Only thing that got me was the shoulder straps could be more breathable.
Nice size/simplicity for daypack
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
I got this to have a smallish pack to wear while hiking, climbing, mountain biking.... and have been loving it. I really like the side zipper pockets. It also seems to be the perfect size for lots of adventures. The way the pack opens is also really convenient especially when climbing and helps you to not drop anything. This is much more comfortable than the cheap REI daypacks (18L) which I also love. Very simple design.
