    Light & Warm

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 6'0"
    • Weight: 155lbs

I was super surprised at the warmth to weight ratio. It is very warm for how light it is! I wore it over a tee-shirt in windy 30 - 50 degree weather and was very comfortable. I also don't overheat when I'm inside which is very impressive for a down jacket. I've gotten multiple compliments on the look as well. What more do you need? Side note, the fabric feels thin, I haven't torn it but I'm scared that I will--something to think about.

    Great down layer

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: large
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 190lbs

I've had this jacket for several seasons now and it's served its purpose well. It doesn't have the bulk of many other down jackets making it awesome to layer under my shell jacket. I've never been cold with this system and it looks good on its own as a casual outer layer. My only gripe is that the zipper broke after a year and half which means I can now only use it as a layering piece and just use a safety pin to keep it together. I get that it's lightweight but would love a heavier duty zipper.

    Warmth Without the Bulk

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 6'0"
    • Weight: 180lbs

I recently purchased my Mountain Hardwear Ghost Whisperer Hooded Down Jacket for a trip to Colorado. What a great investment! When I received the jacket I couldn't believe that it was light as a feather. I was a little concerned that it would not be live up to it's reputation as far as keeping me warm. It totally lived up to it's reputation and ravings as the best available ! It's now my "go to" jacket for everything. Excellent quality and pack-able into a small size. Backcountry is the company to deal with on this item because of the support and great customer service. 5 STARS!!!!!

    Great Jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I got this as a gift for a friend and he said "This is a great jacket, slim fitting but not too tight and uncomfortable; I can still move around and not feel trapped. It is also super lightweight and warm, its my first down jacket and so far there is nothing to disappoint. Just an FYI, the fabric is shiny! Overall this is a great coat and I'm looking forward to years of use!"

    Love the Ghost Whisperer BUT

The 1018-2019 Ghost Whisperer seems to be cut slimmer than before. I bought an XL to replace a 4 year old XL that was lost in an accident last month. This one is super tight across the chest. I returned it for a XXL.

      Best Jacket I own

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size
      • Height: 5'11"
      • Weight: 140lbs

This jacket is the best insulation layer I own, I love that it packs into it's own pocket and how small it compresses. for mountaineering it's the best medium layer for 14ers.

      top

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: M
      • Height: 5'8"
      • Weight: 176lbs

I love this jacket. I got the Crevasse and this color is awesome
As for the quality, this is top: extremely light, warm, good fit, excellent hood

      This jacket does it all

This jacket is by far the best jacket I’ve ever had. I wear it everywhere and while doing anything. For my summer alpine excursions it’s perfect. When it’s getting cold I can quickly get it out and warm up instantly. Plus it’s super duper light so there’s no slowing you down. It also works great while snowboarding down a 14er in winter. I’ve put this jacket through hell and of course it has some battle scars but it’s always performed. The only thing I don’t like about this jacket is it’s zipper. Mountain hardware jackets, in my opinion, have bad zippers that are finicky and difficult at times. Even with that I’d gladly spend the money, while on clearance, for this jacket.

        Scary good

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
        • Height: 5'2"
        • Weight: 120lbs

Ghost whisperer indeed. Scary how light and effective this jacket it! I had doubts on the quality and warmth because it seemed too good to be true. But this guy keeps you toasty while holding up to wear and tear. I have one that I just adore, so I decided to spoil my dad for Christmas this year and get him one!

        Best Down

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times
        • Fit: True to size

This jacket is the best. I have so many down jackets, and from all of them this one has got to be my favorite. It is so light weight, and looks so good. It has a slim down to it. It isn't super puffy, but it is defiantly enough. I do not have one bad thing to say about this. If you are in the market for a down jacket, and this has been on your mind don't hesitate you won't regret it, I promise. Mountain Hardwear kills it.

        Perfect Jacket

        • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I bought this for my dad as a present and he loves it. We went around to multiple stores trying on different puffy jacket. The North Face was to long in the arms, Patagonia was too large all over, but this jacket fit him perfectly. It's not too active of a cut that you cant put layers under it. Plus it is really warm with that 800 fill but easily packs down to nothing.

Great Jacket.. not such a great warranty

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
        • Fit: True to size
        • Height: 6'1"
        • Weight: 165lbs

Love this jacket. Nothing but good things to say about it, but when something goes wrong with the jacket Mountain Hardware isn't the best at taking care of there customers warranty issues. If you're looking for top notch customer service, I would recommend Outdoor Research for your outerwear.

        This jacket is money!

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
        • Fit: True to size
        • Size Bought: Large
        • Height: 6'2"
        • Weight: 195lbs

I love this jacket. Was my primary insulating layer on Kilimanjaro. So light, yet provides really nice insulation and warmth. The hood is money. When you have that thing on your head and body stay nice and toasty. It's also good looking enough to wear around town casually. I've owned several down puffy jackets and this one is by far my favorite. It's expensive, but worth every penny. I can take it anywhere I go and not worry about the space or weight it will add. Fits really well.

Heavy mid layer or light outer

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
        • Fit: True to size
        • Size Bought: Large
        • Height: 6'0"
        • Weight: 185lbs

Sizing: i'm 6' 185' and fairly muscular, the large fit perfect around the shoulders without being super lose every where else. This fit is great for moving around without being baggy.

I run fairly hot so this jacket is a perfect outer layer down to 10-20 ish degrees. I took it to japan with me as my only jacket and a arcteryx shell for snowboarding. Couldn't have been happier with the combo. When the temps really started to drop on the mountain this was perfect as a mid layer.

The fact that it packs small was also HUGE on my one bag trip to japan for snowboard. All of my friends want one of these now and would likely have one if it wasnt for the price.

        Super light

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times
        • Fit: True to size
        • Size Bought: small
        • Height: 5'10"
        • Weight: 135lbs

Not miraculously warm, but a nice piece for traveling light & fast. Goes great with a 40F sleeping bag. In size small weighed about 7 oz. There are any number of sub-1 lb jackets which will keep you warm into the low 30's, but this probably isn't one of them. The difference is of course the light weight and small packed size. I wore it with a marmot driclime windshirt and a midweight wool base layer on cool (high 30's) mornings and evenings and while I wasn't toasty I wasn't hypothermic & shivering either. I have 12 oz jackets which would have been warmer, but then I would have been carrying 5 extra ounces...

        Impressive

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times
        • Fit: True to size
        • Size Bought: medium
        • Height: 6'0"
        • Weight: 175lbs

This is a great jacket. The weight-to-warmth ratio is really impressive. I'm also pretty impressed by how will it breaks strong wind considering how thin it is. I have yet you spend long periods outside in harsh temps, but I'm confident it will do quite well with a shell overtop.

The fit is nice and trim, which I like. I'm 6'0'', 175 and wear a medium (don't like looseness).

        Amazing Jacket, Slight Quality Issue

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
        • Fit: True to size
        • Height: 5'6"
        • Weight: 130lbs

This jacket is super light, warm, and comfortable and honestly amazing but the only issue is QC on the threads. Ordered one jacket and sleeve threads were catching and snagging on zippers when using pockets so I sent back and the second jacket has the same issue. It looks like in random places the threads are not sewn down and leave little loops to catch on zippers.

        • Height: 5'6"
        • Weight: 130lbs

Superlight, very warm, looks the part, essential gear for the mountain life, folds into itself for storage and you must buy one.

Does anyone know if the yellow is translucent? (And you can see the down clusters), giving it that dirty appearance?

Let's say I have 200-260 merino wool base and polartec fleece layer. Will this jacket withstand Alaska's -40 with or without a 3 layer membrane over it? I mean both active and resting times. Thank you!

I have had mine in Maine at 0 degrees F with a base layer and a shell for skiing and it doesn't come close to keeping me warm. Not sure I would use this where I'd overheat (mountaineering) because of the down.
