Why We Like The Ghost Whisperer UL Down Jacket

The original Ghost Whisperer was already one of the lightest down jackets on the market, but we love that Mountain Hardwear decided to go even lighter with the Ghost Whisperer UL Jacket. At a scant six ounces, the Ghost Whisperer UL utilizes down insulation with the highest fill rating available.

1000-fill down doesn't mean this is the warmest, loftiest jackets around, but rather the lightest and most compressible down that you could find. That down adds to the jacket's lightness and lets you pack the whole thing in its own pocket for compact storage. Mountain Hardwear also changed the shell with a 5D ripstop for lighter weight, and it still has a DWR treatment for water-resistance against passing showers or snowfall.

The perfect insulating layer!

Love it! This jacket is incredibly light but still keep you warm. Actual jacket is a tiny more green than the photo - it's a great color.

LIGHT WEIGHT & WARMEST

Lightest weight, well fit and warmest jacket I own! I would like the sleeves to be longer and sleeve pocket for easier scanning of ski pass (these are minor details). I have worn this jacket skiing at 10,000+ elevation ski days in Utah with temps of -10, with wind chill and snow, and stayed warm.

Buys this jacket.

An absolute beast when it comes to warmth and weights less than a T shirt.

Ultralight, moderately warm, poor quality zippers

Warm and ultralight, but beware: one reason it's ultralight is because the zippers are ultralight garbage. Expect the zippers to last 1-3 years before failing. Our jacket lasted just shy of three years before the zipper exploded catastrophically.

Gift for the GF

Bought as a gift for the GF, she was very happy and surprised at how amazingly light and warm. She mentioned this a couple of times to me!

So many options

Love the fit and lightness. Plan to take it on a month long travel with variable weather Colorado to SE Asia.

Light and lofty.

Great ultralight jacket, treat with appropriate care

4.5 stars. I love it. It fits great (5-7 and curvy with a 36D chest). The quality is good, as expected. Understanding that the 5D fabric both drops weight and makes this a more fragile jacket, I am very satisfied with my purchase. The size large puffy fits under my size large shell well. I wanted to knock off half a star for the fact that, though the coat fits into its side pocket for storage, the zipper does not have an inside-facing pull, as well as an outer facing pull. Perhaps the concern was that the fabric is to delicate for this type of storage? But, a double layer of fabric, creating a pocket separate from main seams, could have remedied this, for an additional gram or 3. And the ability to pack the jacket small would make it much easier to protect the jacket in a full backpack. One last note. It doesn't bother me, but may brother some, in the lighter colors, you can discern the feathers through the fabric. If this might bother you, get a darker shade of this jacket.

Great jacket!

It wears like the lightest and warmest of hugs. I love this jacket! My only critique is the lack of drawstring at the bottom, which older versions had.
