So Close!

I loved the colors, the fit was good, but it has 2 huge flaws... No snow gaiter on the inside to keep the snow out. The supposed "hand warmer" pockets are directly behind the breast pockets, so you really can't have items in both at the same time. There are no pockets at the normal hip/belly level like most jackets have. Completely defeats the purpose of having 2 sets of pockets. So disappointed!

Excellent mountaineering / ski shell

Sturdy waterproof shell for the mountaineer or skier. Thoughtful features - harness compatible pockets, lots of storage space. Great competitor for the other all around or severe weather gore-tex shells. All around an excellent, quality jacket. My only lament is that outdoor brands continue to manufacture women's tops for an average woman's shoulder breadth, leaving little room for women with more athletic shoulders to move and layer under a jacket that properly fits the rest of her build. I'm 5'6",130 lbs and while I can fit a base and a mid-layer in the medium, there is a little bit of restriction with all the layers on the kind of active arm reaches that you use scrambling and climbing, due to a narrower shoulder.

Excellent all purpose shell

I snagged this jacket in order to serve as my one-stop-shop shell. It does it all, it is a tank! This is seriously the real deal for winter sports and mountaineering; no thin fabrics here. My only idea for improvement is that the waterproof pit-zips are a little stiff, and sometimes I could feel zippers in my armpits (through a MH stretch down jacket, fleece, and two base layers) during slow moments on a hike.

Hood too large without helmet

I got this to serve as a waterproof layer for my winter hikes, but I tend to not run around in a helmet. The hood is such that no amount of adjusting the strings would make it sit in a way that would keep water out. It’s just way too big/high and it feels like maybe it’s meant to be worn only with a helmet under. In the end, had to return it without ever actually wearing it.

The perfect Goretex shell

I’ve been hunting for the perfect pro-shell for mountaineering and this is it! Flattering fit with enough room for layering, multi-layer goretex blocks the elements and yet breathes really well with the full-length pit zips, and great functional design extras like high chest pockets and interior mesh cell phone pocket. Works great with climbing harness, and is light weight and easy to stash. Love the vibrant colors too! Thank you Mountain Hardwear for hitting the mark on functional and flattering female clothing!

Denali Strong

I had the pleasure of wearing the Exposure 2 system on our VetEx Denali Expedition this past summer. The weather on Denali is notoriously…bad. This year the Denali range had record highs and a record number of sunny days. Luckily, the Exposure 2 was built for extreme temperatures and conditions on either of the spectrum. Exposure: The lower glacier felt like a rotisserie oven. Although the ambient temperature is generally in the low 20’s or teens, the radiant heat off the glacier made it feel like a punishing 80-90 degrees. The ventilation and breathability of the Exposure 2 Pro bib bottoms was beyond enough to stifle the heat between 11k camp and high camp. The full-length side zips that extend from the top of the bib all the way down, allowed me to properly adjust ventilation as the weather and wind changed. Our attempted summit day provided winds in excess of 30-40mph. The Exposure 2 jacket did a great job keeping the heat in and me as comfortable as I could be at 18,000 feet in crazy winds! Material: The Exposure 2 Pro system felt light and flexible in all conditions without sacrificing durability. The reinforced fabric on the cuff and instep of the pant survived contact with my crampons. The jacket held up against the wear and tear of hauling heavy packs and the occasional ice axe nicks. I really liked the versatility of the Exposure 2 Pro and almost felt like I was wearing a soft-shell layer due to the fabric and articulated stitching on joint lines. Not once did the pant or jacket feel stiff. The fit of the jacket and pant was nicely cut for the female form and without the usual box like baggy structure. Comfort: Our expedition lasted 21 days. I found that I would forget I was wearing the Exposure 2 Pro. Had I known the quality and versatility of the Exposure 2 Pro system before I left for Denali, I would have left my soft-shell pants at home. The pockets are plentiful and easily accessible. My favorite were the pockets located on the thighs of the bib pants. The suspenders ensured the pants stayed where they were supposed to while climbing and the full-length zips allowed for easy access for bathroom breaks. The entire set weighs in at just under 2.5 pounds. Style: Many of the women on the team loved the Cosmos Purple. This new concept from Mountain Hardwear had us standing out from all the other teams. I’m partial to the more natural colors of Void (Blue Gray) and Dark Army (Green). Yes!! A company who finally offers female gear in neutral tones and not just pastel colors! Please please please continue this trend Mountain Hardwear! Recommendations and Summary: The only item I would recommend for adjusting would be to raise the female bib top to a height above the chest. This is a common problem for bib style pants and having a bib that rises higher can be more comfortable for the female athlete. I often found it difficult to access the top bib pocket with my harness, pack, and other climbing gear on. If this pocket was raised it would be an easy reach with a simple zip down of the jacket. All in all, the Exposure 2 Pro was a beast on Denali. It performed exceptionally well in the heat, cold, wind, and whatever else Denali could throw at it. It will be an consistent part of my mountaineering kit and I would highly recommend it for any adventurer heading to the mountains! I am 5'5", 138lb, athletic build and a Small fit perfectly.

High Quality & Good Looking

I wore this jacket skiing a few weeks ago and it was fantastic. The fit is amazing and I got a ton of compliments for the looks. It's fitted yet nice and loose. I have not used it on a powder day (no powder skirt - not made for that) and I'm not sure I'd use it for skiing in super wet snow -- but for climbing and light snow / Rockies snow -- it's perfect. Would highly recommend -- and debating if I need the bibs!
