    Cozier than a fire-heated cottage.

Escape the occasionally capricious city and flee to friendlier, snow-capped yurts with Mountain Hardwear's Women's Downtown Down Coat. When you're engulfed in weather evocative of Winter Storm Linus and the city traffic hums melodies reminiscent of deep mountain bluegrass, it's easy to pine after cozy, fire-heated cottages and warm, savory beef stews. Let the Downtown Coat be your Norwegian cast iron stove, fresh baked bread, and cup of Hot Toddy, all wrapped up in one, comfy coat.

The highly efficient Q.Shield Down technology glazes each feather with a water repellent coating—making it ideal for those cold and damp New England stormfronts that have a knack for chilling you to the bone. The 30D quilted nylon fabric, internal high-loft fleece backing, and 650 fill down repels wind and moisture while simultaneously keeping you snug as a bug in a snowstorm swathed rug. The removable faux-fur hood lining gives this jacket a little bit of extra luxurious, subtle flair without looking overtly pretentious.

Great coat but still need to return

    • Size Bought: XS

I love the color - it is kind of a dark plum sheen!!!! The length of the coat would be great! I'm sure it would keep you warm but I do feel like The North Face Arctic Parka (which I have) will keep me warmer. I do love how snug my head fit into the fur lined hood - there would be no way for wind to get in. I do wish that my above mentioned North Face parka was as snug although it isn't far from it. The sleeve length is just about as short as I would go - I am very long and lean. It isn't short but I like having my sleeves just a tad longer than most. The reason for the return is the width of the sleeves at the wrist. Wind is definitely going to go right in there. They are very wide. As I am ALWAYS cold, I can't keep something that I know will only make matters worse. It's too bad because that is the only reason this coat is going back. I loved everything else about it. It is super cute, warm, and comfy and the color is awesome!

I just received this Mountain hardware downtown coat today...my husband said the color(stone green) is great and stylish...it is so light and I think will be warm...36 inches of length is not too long or short...I love it very much...I am glad read all review comments, and went out of the box and got this brand...it is much cheaper than northface I purchased in the past but with good quality stuff....highly recommended....

    Looks awesome, very cold.

Even thought his jacket wins in every other category - it is cloud soft and very light, looks and feels great on, it has no wind protection, all there is between you and elements is down, which makes it very cold in real winter conditions. It is not waterproof either. Not sure what the point of it is, to tell you the truth. What is the point to look like Michelin man and freeze at the same time?Try The North Face Metropolis for serious weather protection. It is a workhorse of down parkas and has the best weight/warmth ratio!

Way too big for short girls

I wanted to love this coat, but it was way too big and long for my 5'1" and 115lbs frame. It looked like I was wearing a man's coat. Not flattering at all for public use and the length covered my knees. The shoulders and arms looked like they belonged on the size large. Please make petite sizes!! Still giving a three stars cause I know this coat looks great on taller gals.

        Runs Small

Coat was what I expected- nice color and good quality, but if you are larger in the bust- this coat runs small! I ordered an XL and the bust fit the same as my size L Northface parka.

        weird jacket

        • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

        • Size Bought: xsmall
        • Height: 5'4"

The color is really nice but it seemed poor quality. Overall it just fit oddly and did not look nice on.

        Great coat, runs big

This is a really nice coat. It is nice and fluffy, warm, and nice-looking. The drawstring at the waist is a really awesome feature, it gives the coat a nice flattering shape. The other thing that is great is the length of the sleeves, they are super long and awesome! With that said, I have 2 complaints about this coat. One, the shoulders and arms are really big. The body of the coat fit me well, but the shoulders and arms were too big, even under a big full size sweatshirt! I plan to try sizing down, and seeing how that goes. I don't mind this coat not having the cuffs in the sleeves because it is tight enough around the wrists, in my opinion. Second, is the fur. I like fur trimmed hoods, and this one just looks a little cheap to me (not a huge deal, as it is removable). Overall this coat is nice. I live in North Dakota and have worn it twice (both times were between 5 and 11 degrees F) this coat did keep me warm and cozy even though it was cold outside.

        Gets me through Chi-beria winters!

I work in downtown Chicago and this has been my daily jacket for 6 years now and it STILL keeps me warm. The zipper has seen better days and starting not to stay up but I'm working with Mountain Hardware to get it fixed. I've warn it on days that feel like -40 with windchill and made it to work with no freezerburn! Also found it to be the most generous in the chest area in its class!

        Cute and comfy

        • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
        • Fit: True to size
        • Size Bought: Medium
        • Height: 5'8"
        • Weight: 130lbs

While I will not keep this jacket, I do think it's really cute, warm and cozy. I am 5'8", 130 lbs, with long arms. I ordered a medium but think I could have gotten away with a small, however the waist cinch feature is awesome! I wish more parkas would offer this as it helps to make it look more feminine! The detachable hood with detachable fur trim is a great feature as well. The pockets are warm and soft and the 2 way zipper works great. Why am I not keeping this you ask?... For the same reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5... The sleeves. The wrist holes are quite large and floppy. This would be ok if there was a cinch down option. However, there was not, so there is no way to make the wrists more fitted. Unfortunately, these sleeves would let a lot of cold air/wind in, which is a no go for someone like me who runs cold and likes to be as warm as humanly possible when out in the bitter chill! So, this coat is going back. If Mtn. Hardware improves this jacket with a fitted sleeve liner or wrist cinching option, it would be amazing!

        Awesome winter coat

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times
        • Fit: True to size

I love the fact that this coat fits me well. I'm 5'0 and 115 lbs - I got the size S. It kept me cozy last winter. Highly recommend this procuct.

        great coat

        • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Keeps you warm in very cold temps yet feels light weight. Definitely would recommend. I am 5.5 about 125 and a medium fits me well.

In the good words of Mr. Andrew Jordan-

"I bought for my daugter. It is really good. This down coat was tested on hilled terrain in real winter environment. As my daughter said, she never had this light garment and so warm. Even if you are afraid of cold, you?ll hardly notice it. The size is right. And important is right length ? the coat doesn?t impede quick walk and you can rest on snowy hill just sitting on it. I?m glad that I?ve bought it."

Since they weren't able to put this review online, I was requested to do so!

          Voila !

          GREAT COAT

          • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

My daughter loves this coat. It is super warm for cold Ohio days. She bought the small. She is 5'6" and weighs around 125. She has had a bit of trouble with the zipper but i think it's because it's a double zipper (zips up from the bottom for room) and she might not always get the zipper seated in properly. Overall, she is very happy with this coat.

          Love this coat!!!!

          • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is an awesome coat. I tried TNF and Patagonia, they don't fit right. This coat fits beautifully. I am 5'3" 155 pounds, 59 years young and the L fits awesome with enough room for a sweater underneath. Plus it comes in at the waist but still leaves some room. Also very light weight, but extremely warm.

          FIT is true to SIZE.

          • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I am 5'6" 118 lbs and ordered a size small based on the reviews. I really wished I had ordered an XSmall in the end because size small was definitely a little baggy. I like my jackets snug (but not too snug). If you are small to medium chested like me (around 34B cup size), an XS would have been a better fit. Size small was too big. Now I have to return my original order for the XS, hoping it doesn't sell out...

          Great Coat!

          • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Been searching for a warm coat of this length. The fit was perfect. I used this for a winter camping weekend and was very warm the entire weekend. I also use this as my day to day winter jacket. The down is great, I rarely find myself too hot in the jacket, something that happens often in synthetic materials. I love it. Fashionable and functional.

          Great coat!

          • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

We purchased this coat for my wife a couple years ago and recently purchased one for her mom. It has been a great coat that warm enough for Chicago winters, but does not create a "heat box" effect to make it too hot.

          Great coat, not too stay-puf-marshmallow

Bought this and TNF Upper West Side to try out after concludng that Patagonia Fiona wasn't warm enough. First thought was that it was too heavy for DC, but I wanted something for our coldest days when walking the dogs is an unpleasant chore, and the 15 minute walk between downtown offices I do a few times a week make me whimper. The pluses were the detachable hood, shaped silloutte (which is important n a puffier coat), above the knee length, yummy plush lining, and quality. Disn't love the look of the Other coat as much. Two days after the decision the temerature dipped and the winds picked up, resulting in wind chills of <20. I have happily walked the pooches, and even went an extra mile because I was so comfy. I am 5-6, 160, and bought a L, which gives me plenty of room for layers - or even a suit jacket. Happy customer!

What are the cleaning instructions? Does the fur detach from the hood so that the hood stays on? Or does the entire hood come off?
