Why We Like The Direct North GORE-TEX Down Jacket

The Direct North is ready for both powder-filled back bowls and lotprès bevvies. The wispy fill defends our heat fiercely without weighing us down, while spray rolls right off the INFINIUM™ shell. When the wind howls, we pull the hood over our helmet and cinch the hem tight, sealing out the icy rush. With wrist gaiters, mesh-lined vents, and a powder skirt built right in, this jacket is well equipped for the deep stuff yet slides effortlessly into the post-shred scene with its classic puffy aesthetic.

Disappointed in fit

Disappointed with overall fit. Bought a size small which has always fit great in the shoulders and arm length with this brand but this coat is very snug in armpit/shoulder area and arm length is too short.

Single best ski outerwear purchase I have made

I'm obsessed. I ski about 3-4 days per week. I'm not interested in being cold. I can handle cold feet or face, but not my body. I looked for a while for a down jacket with water resistance and pit zips. When I saw this jacket I purchased it instantly. It has been non-stop winter in the western US and I have skied in this jacket in heavy winds, white outs, single digits and teens with sub-zero windchill, ice forming on my jacket, and not once have I quit skiing for the day because I was cold. Even on the chairlift, I'm just out there having a good time. I will say I do still layer (base +/- lightweight midlayer) underneath depending on the temperature. I have hiked up bootpacks in this jacket and did not have the sweat/freeze thing going, thanks to some breathability, and ventilation with the pit zips. High recommend if it fits you well. For reference 5'5, 118lbs, size small.

Good ski jacket

Good ski jacket for winter weather (Whistler). Nice styling, well made, comfortable and warm. Wish it had down in the sleeves too. Bought large.

Great ski jacket

I bought this for the cod mountains of Vermont. It has all the features of a technical jacket and the warmth of down. It’s really perfect and the colors are beautiful.

Warm jacket!

Love this jacket on cold days. Wear with a base layer in up to -25C and am still a good temperature! Good fit. Takes a while to dry if you get the inside wet - recommend turning inside out for the process.

Defect

Hi love this coat, minus the weird defect in the snow skirt. When it’s not done up it pulls on the sides the coat and makes the zipper pucker . Too bad because everything else is great.

Noisy jacket

I liked the style of the jacket but I returned it. The fabric is noisy when you walk around. After a while it is kind of annoying.

Love it!

I wore this last ski season. It was warm, and I love that it is Gore-Tex if it gets wets. I love the pit zips and used them a lot. The hood fits well over my helmet, and I love the tall neck to tuck in my chin and mouth on windy, cold days. Also used the chest and arm pockets, as well as the ski skirt. I also liked the extra length in the sleeve with the additional thumb hole extension. Great, functional features. I ordered the small, and have plenty of room to layer below. For reference, I’m 5’7 and 128 lbs. Last year, they only sold the gray color. Nice that they are offering another color this year, but it would be great if even more colors were available. I wasn’t thrilled about getting a light color, but I needed to replace my other jacket, and I liked these features, so got it. It definitely needs to be washed more b/c stains show more. I would still recommend the coat though!

great warm ski jacket

I wear on those really cold days on the mountains over a baselayer, keeps me nice and warm and dry. I love the tall cozy collar, it keeps the wind off my chin. helmet friendly hood fits great.
