Coolest sun hoody yet

I wear sun shirts because they're cooler than other shirts when it's hot and sunny. This one is the coolest I've tried yet, and the material is very stretchy for athletic pursuits (like climbing and mountain biking, for me). It's dumbfounding to me that they stopped offering them in lighter colors. Who wants to wear a black shirt all day in the hot sun?

Coolest sun shirt I've found yet

I have a yellow/green colored one of these, and it's perfect for climbing in the hot sun. The fabric is the lightest/coolest I've found yet. I wouldn't buy a darker color; lighter colors preferred for my uses (summer climbing in the sun).

Super soft! Super comfy!

I'm a indoor climbing coach and instructor and an avid outdoor climber as well in the New England area and on most of the days it can be pretty cold and rainy but on the off chance that it sunny a nice protective thin hoodie like this is something I need to cover my bases. I'm only 5'9" and a L to XL in shirts and per Mountain Hardware's suggestion I went with a large and it fits like a charm. Perfect amount of room to fit a t-shirt underneath. Even though I'm a climber I actually used this in multiple situations as I also fly fish. While climbing outdoors its a great means of a lightweight layer of protection from the rock but it's also warm enough for me to skip a conventional jacket on breezy climbs. The fabric is also extremely moisture wicking and dries exceptionally fast. Which means when I get wet when fly fishing or sweaty when climbing, i won't have to take off the hoody. It's also a big plus that it the same moisture wicking material is UPF 50 solar knit which keeps my back from getting burned on long routes in the sun while climbing or when on the river fly fishing. The thumb holes are also a great feature on the hoody because when climbing its a great way to ensure that the sleeves don't bunch up unintentionally at the wrong times while still leaving enough of my hands out of the sleeve to make contact with the rock. A great addition to an outdoorsy person's arsenal of gear for any trip

A Great Long sleeve over shirt

I am a rock climbing guide who guides across Colorado and Utah and its important for me to have gear that works well, is durable and looks professional. I got an XL in this at 6'2", 215lbs and long arms and I wonder how the Large would have fit. Typically, in MHW jackets, I am a Large and they fit fantastic. In their long sleeve shirts, I normally get an XL but this one seemed a bit bigger than others I've worn. I am generally ok with this because I wear it over a t-shirt in cool mornings on the rock. I am not a big fan of "sun hoodies". They just don't work for me because I run too hot. Yes, the wicking material is fantastic but being covered in long sleeves and a hood in 90 degree air temps on the rock is just too much. I have to be careful of staying over hydrated with the added wicking capabilities. Where I do love this shirt is as a comfy and moveable over shirt for the freeze-or-fry season. The thumb loops keep the sleeves where you want and the drop shoulders allow for excellent range of motion. I do kind of feel like I am swimming in it but that could be due to odd sizing. I think if you're into sun hoodies than you'll like this shirt but for those of you who are looking for a lightweight long sleeve to use as an over shirt than I think this is a great option!

My New Favorite Layer

I work as a climbing guide on the Front Range of Colorado. During the summer rock season, I spend a lot of time in 90-degree sun and at high elevations in the blazing sun. I have worn this sun hoody almost every day since getting it. It is extremely light, very comfortable, and stretchy in every direction I want. I am also extremely fair-skinned, so I need to keep the sun off of me as much as possible. The hood and neckline are articulated to continue protecting the neck even after the hood is put up. This is a layer that I will wear to death and buy again, over and over. I bought a medium and it was a little big - but that is also the point, to me. I don't want this layer to fit super tight!

Awesome Sun Hoody

I am a search and rescue volunteer and climbing wall instructor who spends my time in Arizona and Washington state. Working in a wide range of environmental conditions requires that my gear does the same. I ordered the Crater Lake hoody as large, my usual size, and I found it fit true to size. I have enjoyed using the Crater Lake hoody while climbing and hiking in hot and sunny conditions. The UPF 50 solar knit fabric is soft, wicks moisture well, and is breathable for a 50 UPF fabric. My favorite feature is the Crater Lake’s dropped shoulders that allow for a big moves and full range of motion when climbing. The Crater Lake is great for outdoor adventures in the sun and has been a life saver climbing in the Phoenix desert.

Loving this hoody!

Between running, little league games, climbing, and doing outdoor camera work, I spend a lot of time outside in the Spring and Summer months. I got this layer a little skeptically because I was worried it would be too hot in the humid south, but I really like it. I'm 5'9" 165lbs. and the medium fits great. The sleeves are just the right length, the hood fits really well, and the material is SO comfortable.

Where's the black and grey?

Perfect, minus the prints and color selection. Need black and dark grey, like the other review, I'd have a closetful.

I can?t believe this is UPF 50

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

This fabric is so incredibly comfy and it?s UPF 50. I love the hood for extra coverage and I am especially loving this for hiking and backpacking where it weighs next to nothing and packs up easy in my pack. I?ve given up my button up sun shirts and replaced them with this product. A+

Almost brilliant

I’ve bought five different garments in this style to compare. The Crater Lake Long Sleeve Hoody is by far the best as the material is soft and stretchy and very light weight. I would buy ten more of these, unfortunately they have no normal colors. With a black, charcoal, navy and heather grey the order would be in immediately. But as a grown man I will not wear kids pajamas patterns.
