Great lightweight jacket
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer

I purchased a Chockstone jacket when they first came out. The zippers were small and not that great, it also had the chest pocket on the right chest. I just purchased a new Chockstone and MHW have taken care of those issues. But, they lost some of the little extras they had on the original. No fleece lining on the collar at the chin and just a cheaper feel overall. I think owning multiple types of jackets as being part of quiver, so you can create a layering system that best suits the conditions you will be in. Even during the summer you still need to create a lightweight layering system. The Chockstone jacket is a very lightweight layer for those chilly mornings, or times when the temps aren't that cold, but you just need a thin layer to take the chill off. I use mine for walking the dog and traveling to and from the gym. I have used it for mountaineering and while I was in the Alps just needing a light layer to throw on. I even use it for travel. it is small enough to throw into a carryon, when landing in a new city, if the temps have dropped from where you have just came from it is a handy piece to be able to throw on. It isn't a rain jacket, it is more of a windbreaker without the sticky nylon against your skin. . The jacket will shed some light rain if you just bought it and if you re-treat it with a DWR coating from time to time. The Chockstone material is a great material for a jacket, shorts and pants. It is stretchy and very comfortable against your skin. I would recommend the Chockstone jacket for sure.
