Why We Like The Aspect 2 Tent

We love that the Mountain Hardwear Aspect 2 Tent is surprisingly robust for how little it weighs and how easy it is to pack on backpacking trips. The Sil nylon fly offers reliable, 3-season protection from wet weather, while the 3/4 mesh canopy maximizes airflow for warmer weather. There are two full-size doors and one vestibule large enough for two backpacks. DAC Featherlight poles provide a sturdy setup without weighing you down on the trail, and one of the poles is pre-bent to give better headspace.

windy test for Aspect 2 tent

in a recent backpacking trip in the Sierras we had a mix of weather - but a few days of very windy conditions were a key test for the Aspect 2. I placed decent sized rocks over key tent stakes and the tent held up great during two very windy nights. I didn't sleep great due to the wind, but the tent held up well even with the walls often bowing in. They held up fine though!

Great Ultralight Tent

Was looking for an ultra light tent for backpacking. Was going to get Hubba Bubba, but got a good deal on this. Glad I did, as it was perfect. Used it on a 3 day trip, and had a good rain on one of the days/nights. Everything stayed dry inside and inside the vestibule. Setup is quick and easy.

Fantastic Tent

Very easy to set up and very robust for the weight. This tent has kept me dry through alpine storms and thwarted marmots from getting to any of my stuff inside. Great tent with a well thought out design to reduce weight as well as providing plenty of inside space. I have had 2 people and a dog comfortably inside of this as well as just me with plenty of space for A LOT of gear.

Great all-around tent

Familiarity:

PNW Snow ✓ Desert ✓ Patagonia ✓ car camping ✓ I love this tent. It is sturdy, symmetrical, and works in all environments. We put it to the test in Patagonia winds and it held up wonderfully(you do need to get longer stakes for that though). Looking forward to many years of adventures with this lil tent!

THE BEST 2-person backpacking tent

I LOVE this tent. Just bought a second one for my adult son. It is far superior to my other tent, the Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL2. The Ascent 2 is superior in many important areas: it is lighter, the sil/sil nylon fly is always dry unlike the heavy water-sponging fly of the Copper Spur, it has a smooth fly profile that sheds all water unlike the Copper Spur fly's pond triangle, and it is symmetrical for easy night-time setup. I love the Aspect because it is double wall instead of the more expensive dineema which only creates a muggy condensation-heavy enclosure.

Measurements not accurate, but a well made tent

Just got it shipped to me. Came in good time. Tent feels sturdy. Have used other well made tents including big angels copper spur HV UL, tiger wall UL, and the MSR Hubba Hubba, and this fits right up there with them. Only complaint is it’s specs state 50” wide online, and the shipped product arrived tagged as 48”. Two inches may not sound like much, but for tents that are already tight for two, it just got that much smaller. Further, the actual manufactured width staked out is just over 47”. It will be a cozy sleep, hope I like my camping partner!

Light and roomy

I chose the Aspect 2 for the large footprint and weight. It didn’t feel cramped inside even though my wife and I are both tall (6’2” and 5’11”). Tent did great in light wind (10-15mph) and drizzle, I haven’t tested it yet in worse conditions. It’s so easy to pitch, which I also love. It feels very fragile but I’m hoping it lasts a long time!

Awesome tent

I bought this tent for a 12 day hike. It was pretty light and compacted well in my pack. We had some hard rain and it never leaked a drop.

Tent is Unusable

Used this tent for 2 nights and the fly is now stretched so far that it touches the mesh causing any condensation to come inside the tent. After return from warranty they sent a packet of seam sealer and a couple of extra guy lines, because you need to use every additional tie off for it not to leak as bad. The main issue is that there is no adjustment now in the fly for the tent, when you initially set it up it is maxed out on all 4 corners leaving the top sagging onto the tent body. I have used it in sub freezing temps to high humidity and above 90 degrees Fahrenheit, it still has this issue!

Lighter than my one man

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I'm really pleased with this tent. Its fairly new so I can' give feedback if it will last. But I will say it is lighter and packs the same as my one man tent, so I use this for solo trips now too. I Like it.
