    A necessary essential.

Warm and toasty is something we all strive for on cold winter days. The Mountain Equpiment Men's Skyline Hooded Down Jacket will keep you snug as a bug, whether you bring it to the crag for a late fall climb or on a winter camping trip. Not only does the 700-fill down pack a nice warm punch, but it also packs down into its own mesh pocket where you can hang it from a carabiner during a multi-pitch or shove it into your pack with ease. When you have to walk away from the campfire, cinch the hood around your face and stuff your hands in the warm pockets.

    • Lightweight down puffy for packing on cold winter trips
    • Fabric is light, windproof, and water-resistant
    • Adjustable hem and hood keep out the frosty air
    • Packs down into inner mesh pocket with carabiner loops
    • Elastic cuffs and insulated pockets for warm wrists and hands
    • Item #MEQ006V

    Best jacket I've owned

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: medium
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 160lbs

In my opinion, Mountain Equipment is the most underrated company in the U.S. and this jacket is proof of that. The big problem with down has always been that once it gets wet it's useless, so when I got this jacket I decided to put the water resistance to the test by running it under the sink. The water beaded up and fell right off, not a drop made it to the insulation. Even more amazing is that it's still breathable. It's also very warm; like I don't turn the heat on when I'm driving to go skiing warm.

Like most ME gear it does fit on the slim side so it fits very well under a shell but interestingly I've found that it also fits well over the top of one as well. So if you're just stopping for a while on a cold day and only plan to have it on for a short while you can put it on without having to dump all your heat by pulling your shell off.

The zippers are super smooth and easy to work, which doesn't sound like a big deal but you'll find that you appreciate it more than you'd expect. The pockets are generously sized and insulated which is very nice.

I really can't say enough good things about this jacket, it's as close to the perfect jacket as I can imagine. If you have any questions about it feel free to email me at jeallen@backcountry.com

    Versatility is its strong suit!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Height: 5'11"
    • Weight: 180lbs

This jacket is perfect for staying warm on cold days at the crags but doubles down as it looks good around town and has a pocket that it can stow itself in which makes it ideal for travel. Has been a great additions to my winter jacket collection and I find myself reaching for it more than I would have imagined. Insulated pockets are a nice touch as they keep your hands warm in a pinch when putting gloves on for a short stint is unnecessary.

    Perfect Down mid layer

    • Height: 5'5"
    • Weight: 130lbs

With a water-resistant outer fabric, this is the perfect insulation piece for those 25 to 35 degree days/ .

Fits great for a day to day winter coat aswell.
