Warm, dry feet on dog-sled rides and snowshoe adventures.

Don't let the fact that the wind is howling and the snow is piled up to the eaves keep you from getting out and enjoying the great outdoors. Just throw on the Merrell Men's Polarand 8 Waterproof Boot and make cold toes a thing of the past. 1.5 mm thick waterproof leather uppers seal out the worst winter storms, and the 400-gram Thinsulate insulation fools your feet into thinking they're at home next to the fire. The bellows-style tongue keeps unwanted debris and wetness from creeping in on the top of your foot. Merrell added an ActiveHeat insole that has silver reflective film to reflect the heat of your foot back to your foot—where it should be, rather than losing it to the cold. Even your team of sled dogs are going to be jealous of your footwear when you come out rockin' these bad boys.

good boots for winter and hiking @ times

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 12

These boots I got back in September to use for my winter hiking and for a warm boot to slip on when I do not want the hassle of putting on my bigger Sorel boots, what do I have to say about these boots.

They are great for what I want them to do, hiking in late fall was great! We hiked to a rapids/waterfalls the trail was muddy and soggy being about an ankle deep in water did not feel any water seeping through. grip wise these hold up in algae water as i was trying to get to a part of the falls I had to cross a decent gap of water that rocks were slippery. now I am not saying go running in it but the water current wont force you to slip. I forgot to mention my feet were warm the entire time and not to warm which it was great!

Winter time these boots are keep their warmth being up in Northwestern Ontario where sometime the temperature drops to -30° to -40° C so a warm boot is needed if you like walks or being outside. Bad thing about these shoes is ice its performance is not the best, as a rough ice and snow mix its does its job but once its just ice you will be slipping like everyone else.

with that being said it is a great boot for the price Marrell will need to focus some more on the grip to ice but it does the job for me. Also to add they need to stop making the lace hoops riveted in, I was lazy and didnt lace it up all the way one walk one of the laced caught the hook and I face planted to the ground ripping the hook out

    Look no further, my friends!

If you need a warm boot, here it is. Warm, extremely comfortable, dry in snow and rain and solid on wet rock. So, what else is there to say? This is the hoodoo of winter boots!

I have the women's version, but I love it so much that I wanted to post my review here, as well. This photo of me is just before I walked into our first winter storm of the season. The boots handle perfectly in snow. The are warm, dry and don't slide. I found them breathable, as well.

I'm not leaving a huge review, but they are honestly perfect. I'm so happy I found these. This is and All-Star boot.

In boots, I'm a size 9 and the 9 is just right.

Dry and Warm, great for the Antarctic!!

As a graduate student working in Antarctic, it is vital to stay warm and dry, especially when we are working out on the water. I have had Merrells in the past and have loved every pair. For the price and weight, these boots have worked wonders keeping my feet dry and warm.

    Caliente!

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I gave these as a gift and this is what they had to say- HOT hot HOT! These boots are true to fit and are sooo comfortable. They give great grip and definitely keep your feet warm. LOVE merrell! They fit well for a slightly wider foot.

    Hi,
Can you please explain the differences between the Merrell's men's winter boots the Polarand 8 and Chameleon Thermo 8? Both appear to be insulated with 400g thinsulate, are waterproof, and very similar?

    Thank you,

    Mike

    Hi Mike,

The Chameleon's are taller and stiffer. They are more for trudging through snow, than hiking in snowy condition. the Polarand, will be great in heavy snow, but are meant to be comfortable and quick, for hiking in cold temps, and snowy conditions. I have the ladie's version of the Polarand. It is an impressive boot. It's very warm, even in the storms, and very, very comfortable, right out of the box. I have successfully recommended this boot to many customers. More questions? Just call or email me, directly. 801.746.7587 ---->ejenson@backcountry.com
