Merrell Moab 2 Mid GTX Hiking Boot - Women's

Moab 2 Mid GTX Hiking Boot

You'd think "Moab" in the Merrell Women's Moab 2 Mid GTX Hiking Boot stood for Utah's getaway destination for all things outdoorsy and fun, but that doesn't make much sense since this boot's ruggedly reliable waterproof, breathable Gore-Tex is ideal in wet environments, not the desert. Moab actually stands for "mother of all boots," because it's actually ideal for both the desert and the rain forest.  To top it off, or bottom off, Merrell equipped the boot with a Vibram TC5+ sole and plenty of supportive features to keep you on your feet whether you're tackling long trails, carrying heavy backpacks, or both.
  • Merrell's mother-of-all boot for backpacking in any environment
  • Gore-Tex is exceptionally breathability and outstandingly waterproof
  • M Select Fit.Eco+ footbed with added zonal arch and heel support
  • Additional arch shank and heel air cushion for long-lasting comfort
  • Vibram TC5+ sole with 5mm lug depth for reliable traction

Runs wide

Size Bought

Loved the boot but it runs very wide/tall in the toebox -- even with custom orthotics.

Great Hiking Boots!

I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I bought these boots a week ago because i knew my boyfriend and i were going to be hiking when I went to visit him in Kentucky. We hiked about 10 miles total this past weekend. These boots didn't once hurt my feet or make my feet feel uncomfortable. They are definitely waterproof up to the tongue of the boots (obviously). Unfortunately when we were crossing a creek I ended up going shin deep in water so my boots got soaking wet and I was not wearing waterproof socks. However, before I went that deep in water, they were definitely waterproof up to my ankle so I was pretty pleased. They do take a little while to completely dry out. At least 12 hours to get them bone dry again which is why I'm giving them 4 stars. These boots soaked up the water once they were fully submerged. I will definitely be investing in waterproof socks if i will be crossing a creek in those boots again so If I do go above the tongue deep in water they rest of the hike wont suck with wet socks. But overall i am very pleased with this purchase. I am usually an 8.5 and these are true to size with normal socks!

Favorite hiking boot

I've put it through the wringer

When I first started hiking my husband introduced the MOAB to me because it's what he used in the military. I first purchased the low tops and loved the way they fit my wide toe box foot. As a field guide my job required a boot that covers the ankle, and it made sense to get a waterproof boot due to unpredictable Utah desert weather. This boot isn't a summer boot, by any means, but lets my foot breathe within reason. They did hold up well in the rain, but I seriously, seriously put them to the test. While walking 5 miles on a muddy road in the pouring rain, my toes did end up wet. The rest of my foot stayed dry. This is the best compromise for a waterproof, yet breathable boot. I will have a hard time going with any other style or brand.

Perfect for fussy feet

I've used it several times

The boots were comfortable the first time I wore them. I had no sore toes after hiking many miles. The foot bed is very supportive. The boots were true to size. I recommend these boots for fussy feet.

The best general hiking boot.

I tend to only buy Merrell hiking boots because the shape of their boots fits my foot perfectly. I have a regular/ flat-ish foot with a slightly wider than average toe box. I have the Moab low tops for summer hiking, but needed something with a little more support and some GoreTex to keep my feet dry. These will be perfect. They were extremely comfortable right out of the box and I can't wait to use these after the snow melts a bit in the desert. In the meantime, I'll be wearing my Merrell Capra Glacial Ice+ Mid Waterproof Boots which are fleece lined and warm for the winter.
