Chameleon Hiking Shoe
Great shoe! This has all the features I like: comfortable, waterproof, and with the laces that don't become untied as I walk.

Waterproof?
I've been a Merrell fan for years, and I still am -- I'm on my fifth or sixth pair of Jungle Mocs and I hiked in Moab 2s for a long time. But I don't think much of Merrell's "waterproof" claims. Within the past year or so I bought my second pair of Chameleon 8s and moved up to Moab 3s for serious hiking. In both cases I decided to spring for the "waterproof" versions. The morning after a heavy desert rain I took my dog out in the desert, wearing the Chameleons. After about ten minutes in new, wet, desert grasses -- 2-3 inches high -- my heels were dry but my toes were good and wet, and my first hike in the Moab 3s in longer desert ground cover, also after some of our winter rains, took a good deal longer but produced a similar result: dry ankles/heels, wet toes. I remain a Merrell fan, but I'd be wary of the waterproof claim. Maybe save the extra bucks.

Nice shoes
Very comfortable and durable shoe. Bought them to take on a trip to Colorado. Warm and waterproof. Also very comfortable.

Love 'em so far
These are essentially "slip ons" and I didn't think slip ons would fit snugly enough for hiking, but they seem to. Merrills fit me better than other brands and this one is no exception.

Busted open on a hike
The shoe busted on me during a hike. My heal kept popping out and I had no traction or support anymore. The way it busted, I have no clue how it occurred but it wasn’t a gradual tear. It ripped open on a step. More like it busted open down the whole sole.

Great Little Shoe - Chameleon 8
I am on my second pair. The first pair made it to several 7-mile days at PGA events and took me through Southern Africa, Australia, and New Zealand, western Europe and Patagonia to Cape Horn. Working on the itinerary for this pair that will include many US locations and another trip to Europe??

Chameleon 7's were much more comfortable
The 8's are nothing like the Chameleon 7's, which I loved and really wanted another pair. I had 3 pairs of 7's and they were great, lightweight and really flexible. The 8's feel like I am wearing a work boot, really rigid, little flex, and tight feeling, but not in a good way. I have bunions and the 7's conformed to them without putting pressure, which is why I liked them so much. 8's put a lot of pressure on my bunions making them uncomfortable to wear after a few minutes.
