    Inspired by nature to climb.

Take to the trails in the Merrell Men's Capra Waterproof Hiking Shoes. Inspired by the finest mountaineers in class mammalia, the Capras feature a sole modeled after a goat hoof with a cloven design for rock solid performance in steep and demanding terrain. Their leather and mesh upper is waterproof and has a mesh lining for increased breathability. An antimicrobial finish on the inside prevents any unruly odors from taking hold inside of the shoe, while a bellowed tongue prevents any rocks or sticks from hitching a ride in your socks.

I've had this shoe for a few months now, wearing it around town and in the snow and ice. The fit is slightly wider then the Moab, and this shoe is harder to get it to stay tight on the foot. I find my forefoot is sliding around sometimes. The length is perfect. This is the first Merrell shoe I've found that is slightly wider then the Moab. I don't really like the tread pattern though. I've walked up snow covered hills and have found myself constantly slipping and struggling to get up hill with this shoe. The traction isn't really there for the snow and ice and packed snow. The big block of rubber on the toe, slides around to much and has no siping. On dirt and wooded trails, it performs a lot better, but still not on par with the Moab. I found there is a small break in period for this shoe. So far, I MUCH prefer the Moab for tread patter and traction over any surface. I think if there were better designing of the lugs, this would lead to better traction. I'm keeping the shoes, but I don't think I will be buying them again until they update the tread pattern.
