Assegai Wide Trail 3C/TR Tire
As downhill champion's Greg Minnaar's tire of choice for all but the sloppiest mud encountered throughout the racing season, the Maxxis Assegai Wide Trail 3C/TR 27.5 Tire provides unrelenting cornering grip and confidence-inspiring control across a wide range of conditions ranging from loose and dusty to slick roots and rocks after a recent rainfall. Greg looked at the design blueprints of both the Shorty and DHR in the making of this tire, creating one that bites tenaciously with its taller knobs and provides a lot of cornering support.
It's available exclusively in 2.5-inch Wide Trail casing, which optimizes its tread spacing for aggressive trail riders and downhill racers running wider rims for better traction and cornering control at the absolute limit. Maxxis recommends running this 2.5-inch tire on rim widths of 30 to 35 millimeters, giving you the ability to drastically lower tire pressure to gain benefits of grip and compliance over rugged stretches of trail.
The dual-ply downhill casing makes it up to the task of your favorite gravity riding disciplines, from lift-accessed park laps at the local resort to shuttle laps up the pass on the weekends. Maxxis 3C Maxx Grip compound uses the softest rubber compounds for superior grip and control when you're pushing things to the absolute limit on high-speed downhill runs. Additionally, it's tubeless-compatible, so you can securely seal them to the rim without any issues when you're riding hard and fast on downhill trails.

Grip for Days!
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Maxx Grip! you ain't joking! I picked up a set of these to run at the DH Park and some gnarly Enduro trails where pedaling isn't really isn't required. (think Shuttle) Hit the steep and loose stuff hard and fast and with the DD sidewall I needed to run a little less PSI than normal. (16 Fr / 18Rr) on a set of Reynolds TR Carbon 27.5 hoops. I was having so much fun I forgot about one of the hairpin turns on the trail till the last minute. I had to lay on the brakes super hard and the decided to throw caution to the wind and just huck it into a flat rooty turn with some loose black dirt. I can't believe how those tires just dug in and hooked around the turn. The bike was basically pancaked to the ground while the front tire dug a trench around the corner! Now with that Maxx Grip you will notice that they are a little slow to pick up speed out of the corners and if when you have to pedal up a little to hit the Gnar it will feel like you are dragging a pair of cement blocks around with you. My recommendation is if you don't need to pedal on the way down, it's fast, steep, rocky, and all out sketch, these are the tires!

So those are optimized for 30mm rims, would they be OK for 24mm inner rims?
