Ksyrium Merino Arm Warmer

Wool, steel, Ksyrium—few words carry as much weight in cycling culture. The Mavic Ksyrium Merino Arm Warmers combine two of the three for cool-weather comfort on the bike. As much as we love steel in our framesets, we're glad that Mavic left it out of the warmers. Because it's metal. And anyway, merino is the ideal choice for natural fibers come fall and spring. Its structure is what all the hollow-core synthetics are based on because it traps micro-pockets of insulating air in order to preserve warmth. Merino is also naturally odor-resistant, which is a big plus for those of us who wash our warmers monthly or seasonally rather than daily. Those properties are enhanced with some synthetic threades in order to add a stretch-and-return quality that keeps the warmers from stretching out and slouching down your arms on damp, cool days when you need them the most.

  • A classic name with a classic material in a classic accessory
  • Merino wool insulates and resists odor accumulation
  • Warmth isn't compromised by a light spring shower
  • Synthetic addition adds durability and stretch
  • Seamless construction keeps irritation to a minimum
  • Stealth look accented with a Mavic yellow highlight

I'm not a fan of lycra or felt-lined arm warmers as lycra does nothing to block the wind and felt-lined always becomes too hot. These are a great middle ground: they take the edge off the cool days but are good when the temperatures rise into the 60s. The only fault is that they are just not long enough and will inevitably end up poking out of your sleeves. Longer "euro-style" sleeves help a great deal, but even with the longer sleeves these arm warmers will occasionally peak out. They are now my go-to for rides that will end up mostly in the sun or north of 50 degrees, but only when I am wearing euro-length sleeved jerseys.
