Cosmic SL Ultimate Cycling Shoe
The new Cosmic SL Ultimate Cycling Shoe from Mavic can often be found on the feet of the top professional riders in WorldTour races. It's no real surprise that it’s a hit among the climbers as an ultralight road shoe that’s extremely stiff with all-day comfort equates to high performance and welcome on those grueling days with plenty of elevation. By borrowing some technology from the firm's flagship, $1k Comete Ultimate shoes, these Cosmics are featherweight and more comfortable than ever helping you reach new heights in training and racing.
Lightweight shoes feel great when spinning up the pedals, but only if it doesn't come at the expense of losing foot support and power transfer. The shoes are part of Mavic's much-lauded Special Service Course or SSC lineup, products developed for professionals and built using feedback from these riders. Some of these details include updating the patterning with a low-profile collar and an ultra-low 6.5mm stack height to improve comfort, efficiency, and the range of motion throughout the pedaling stroke. The full carbon Energy SLR Outsole is also 10g lighter than Mavic's already light outsole, reducing the rotational mass.
The shoe's upper features a lightweight and supportive TPU frame that’s laser-welded to ultralight mesh panels for maximum breathability and ventilation in the hottest conditions. It's last uses a precise, anatomic heel hold and a rounded toe box for all-day comfort. The heel retention system sits inside the structure, so your foot is held perfectly in place without any extra elements or materials adding grams to the shoes.
Many people associate power transfer as directly proportional to sole stiffness, however, the upper place a critical role here as well. With this in mind, Mavic created a new Ergo Surround upper that transfers every watt directly into the pedals. It achieved this through a careful overlap construction using ultralight materials. This provides a snug, even fit devoid of any hotspots. Lastly, it's cinched down and held in place by a single BOA IP1 dial offering easy on-the-fly customization with 1mm adjustments and a quick-release.

Nice light shoe
- I've used it several times
- True to size
This shoe is a normal Mavic fit, meaning a little wider than Sidi but not not as wide as Sidi Wide. The shoe is very light yet has better support than Giro Prolight Techlace. It has a tongue which has a relatively strong elastic support that strengthens the shoe with the BOA wire as an extra support, not the whole support. It is a little more challenging to insert foot, but not a major hassle. Overall, a great, light, supportive cycling shoe.

The tongue is held in place by a heavy duty elastic piece that makes entry to the shoe difficult. The tongue/upper is so long that it folds/buckles when you put it on.
