    Aksium Wheel

In order to accommodate the increasing popularity of wider road tires, Mavic increases the internal width of their sturdy Aksium Wheels to 17mm, providing more air volume and a better fit for 25 - 32mm wide clincher tires. The Aksium's combine Mavic's renowned value, reliability, and obsessively developed French engineering into a wallet friendly package for those of us on a budget. While it doesn't go toe-to-toe with the top-end wheels found in the peloton and on local start lines, it makes for a solid set of training hoops for those of us wanting to save the pricier wheels for race day or a notable upgrade over most stock wheels for cyclists who simply want a reliable, affordable wheelset.

The Aksiums are notably less expensive than Mavic's Ksyrium wheel offerings, which is the result of a series of minor omissions. For example, rather than having FORE drilled rims and thread-in spoke grommets, the rim is a more traditional single-eyelet-style, with the spoke holes penetrating the outer wall of the rim. These are definitely not race rims, but they're absolutely fearless in the face of training miles over chip seal asphalt and shoulders littered with spring run-off.

The Aksium's rims are constructed from S6000 aluminum, and Mavic uses its UB Control technology to mill the braking surfaces of the rim for improved brake friction and smoother, more controlled stopping in almost any weather conditions. Both wheels feature 20 straight-pull, steel spokes with steel nipples. The hubs use Mavic's QRM double-sealed cartridge bearings to deliver high mileage and long-lasting dependability. Though the Aksium Wheels aren't as light as some costlier, heavily milled counterparts, their durability is outstanding at this price point.

    • High-quality, sturdy road wheels for cyclists on a budget
    • Wider 17mm internal width accommodates 25 - 32mm tires
    • Straight-pull spokes are stronger than J-bend options
    • High-quality double-sealed QRM bearings for outstanding longevity
    • Pinned rim joint and reinforced spoke drilling improve durability
    • UB Control brake track increases friction for more stopping power
    • Includes rim tape and skewers
    • Item #MAV00O2

    Good wheel, great price

I have ridden Aksium wheels on my Felt 45R for a year after replacing the original wheelset (another Mavic set from 2006) after that rear finally failed after 30K miles. I have experienced zero problems with them riding on fairly rough roads for a couple thousand miles. When I bought my Bianchi Intenso this last June, it came with a set of Fulcrum wheels. I rode it for 100 miles and one spoke on the rear completely unscrewed itself while riding. The dealer reinstalled the spoke, trued the wheel and 50 miles later the same thing happened. I replaced both with Mavic Aksiums. For the price they are the best wheel you can get.

      Good wheel

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

It’s a good wheel replacement if you don’t want to spend a lot of money. It’s stiff and responsive to the road. Good wheel for a good price.

      Great for the price

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

So I bought this wheel as a spare. I ride often enough that something always ends up happening to my wheels. The quality is good, it’s stiff and responsive enough.

is this a 10 or 11 speed? if 11, does it come with the spacer for a 10 speed cassette?
